I got some more pics and info on this build from Ray

the back window and front bed piece is from a 71 ElCamino as well as the inside cover on the tailgate.

and the bed floor is from a early 90's chevy truck.

the rear of the door was leaned forward more like a nomad

a set of 58 Chevy Nomad strips on the tailgate.

The inside of my bed will be all steel and fully usable.

the paint is 2007 GM colors, Sunburst Orange #6218 and Dark Tarnished Silver #6223.

here are a few pic of the build in the early stages. Ron...

  4. That's the best ElCamino conversion I've ever seen! The proportions are right on. Makes me want one!!!!!!!!!!!

Very clean looking conversion. I've seen some hacked up ones in the past, this one however looks really good. Nice work, and I dig the color scheme.

I don't normally like conversions, but that is really nice and well done.

I Agree, when I was back there for a visit he told me he was going to cut the roof off and do this, I tried to talk him out of it, but I think it IS looking great.
in the past he has made a 37 chevy windowed delivery,
his daily driver is a primered 37 chevy extended cab PU
and now this cool ElCamino  Ron....

  12. Excellent craftsmanship and it looks very nice but I'd rather have the 2 door wagon.

Would I drive the Camino?.... hell yea

A man named Lonnie Jent in Sullivan, IL has had a 56 Camino for several years. Nice car, but not as nice as this one (I don't think). I don't know any history of the car.

I wonder what prompted Ford and then Chevy to build a car/truck like that when they did?

They never made a 56 El Camino, this is a one off, El Caminos came out in 59, Rancheros in 57.

  23. I would like to say that I am very impressed, quite a nice job, excellent. 2 years ago a neighbor tried to build one, it ended up on the front lawn with a sign asking $4000. It would not even made a good r*t r*d, if you were so inclined for that type of thing. Thanks for posting the pics and story, TR

    Absolutely perfect! Perfect "factory-appearing"
body lines. Perfect choice of colors and use of
    "factory-appearing" two-tone paint and
integrated with the modified, but also still very
"factory-appearing" side trim too! I like the
fact that car's been lowered a bit, but not totally
slammed into the weeds. The stance is perfect.
The 'gray cast-spoke' American Torque's look
perfect on the car as well and are just icing on
cake! They're the only things that don't look like
they actually could have came from the factory
when the car was new, but also, perfectly and just
"ever so subtlety scream" (LOL!) '60's-vintage
"hot rod"! One thought did come to mind after
looking at the pics for a bit longer. It's a minor detail
and not to pick nits in any way, shape or form at all,
but I wonder how it would look if the sliver-gray paint
had been continued onto the roof, but with the window
and roof pillars still in orange?

The car looks great. This conversion was really well thought out. I love how the slant of the back window is matched by the trim.

Damn nice, I've seen a '55 done like this, lucky Chevrolet didn't make em cause then you'd have to find something else to do.

    Scotty.
