I saw it at Pleasanton also... in primer with some odd things done to the rear fenders. looked some what torn apart and in need of some work.

no pics. I don't bring my camera to that show since it is more muscle cars and late models.

 

This is better then the last three books I have read.

 

I can hardly think the Pleasanton car was the same? If someone started hacking into this car they should be KILLED!!!!

 

.... as I recall the rear fenders were flared and the running boards were modified one way or another. the car had tan primer on it and most if not all of the interior was missing. it looked to have been sitting somewhere (inside?) for quite some time.

if I knew there was going to be a test I would have taken notes.

And it is one of the more awesome threads.
Along with the Roy Delaney pickup history,
and many of the rescue/resurrection stories,
these are fodder for perhaps a new topic...
"Best of the HAMB"!

Sorting through the entire topic to find these pearls
is tough...sheer magnitude of HAMB creates high
signal-to-noise ratio.
While most of the noise is somewhat amusing,
it's a shame to let the highest signals disappear into the ether...

Let the brightest lights shine in a place of honor,
and the dimest bulbs glow in archives.

Gee, other than the hood, front fenders, grille, running boards, rear fenders, deck lid, spot lights and side mirror differences that car is identical!

If that is the same coupe (I don't think so) it has been rechopped. Look at the slope of the rear of the roof on the yellow car, very nice slope, that man knew how to chop a '40! The gray coupe doesn't have as much slope, the roof doesn't "flow" into the trunklid, it's a little more vertical in that area. The biggest thing I noticed was the shape of the rear split window. The gray coupe has a squished look to the glass, more pointed at the corners. The yellow coupe has much better proportion to the rear window.
I don't think they are the same car at all. But then again, I am married and am wrong ALOT, I know this because my wife tells me so! lolol

 

NOPE, NOT THE COUPE!!! Lines are all wrong, and the coupe was sectioned more than this car, quarter window are all wrong...I could go on for days. I really hope the guy was not trying to pass it off as it, looks like the pictures on the windshield might be the shot from the movie...

 

I have to agree. It's not the same car. Lots of differences on it. The trunk is a dead giveaway.

Well whaddya know...it's now for sale (see below) and it looks like he is trying to pass it off as the same car. But I totally agree it is not the Hollywood Knights car. The frenched lights alone are very different.

i dont know if anyone has posted this magazine article i knew i had seen that car from the original builders. my nomad is in this january of 1968 rod&custom and so is that 40 here is the article.

Great find!!! That is Tommy and his wife, Kathy...and get this she is the sister of the third owner of the Anderegg roadster, Rick Belcher who owned it from 61ish - 66ish. Thanks!!! THAT CAR ABSOLUTELY ROCKED!!!!

Does anyone know if anything came of this? It is easily the best thing I've ever read. I could hardly get any sewing done at work because ive been reading this on my iPhone.

 

Thanks for the contribution....I wish I had the guts to seek the owner out during one of our trips to Merced....I too absolutely lust over this car, IMHO its the perfect '40 Coupe. It really needs to see the light of day, and be appreciated by John Q. Hot Rod. Thanks again.

 

too bad it will probably sit and rot and go to pot as a possum condo.i bet they found all the wiring yummy as they pissed all over the car.i guess we can file this under the "im gonna fix it up someday " file
