I keep seeing all of these awesome home built English Wheels scattered all over the HAMB. There is a ton of great E Wheel tech on here, let's gather some up in one place for those that are interested in building one or just to want to show theirs off.

I'm sure we can get some of the guys from www.metalmeet.com or www.allmetalshaping.com to show off some E-wheels.

    Here is Rob Paul's Monster!

Hoosier Profiles is a great place to by weld-'em up type kits. GREAT anvil sets and adjusters, as well!

    Shane,
Is Baileigh selling a weld-up kit or anvil/wheel sets? I only saw complete E-wheels on your site?

No weld up kits yet. If there is a huge calling for them I'm sure that could change.

David, some details about the "bloody old car" would be nice as well.

Larry, I don't want to hijack the thread so I will just say it is an SS100.

Sorry for all the junk around it, these are the best pics I have. Built from scrap iron. Well casing I got for free from "cutoffs" from oilfield drilling rigs, and the elbows cost me a case of beer at the local oilfield supply store. They were new elbows that had rusted that the welders would no longer accept.
Wheels are from Hoosier Patterns, and upper adjuster is home built from Wray Schelin and Kerry Pinkerton's designs. That's all folks.

Took some better photos of my wheeling machines without the bloody old car in the way...

    The Frost...

The design of this wheel is over a hundred years old.

    The Kendrick...

This machine is about a hundred years old

Question! Why is it that we only see the thru-shaft upper wheels on cast framed English Wheels??

Here's my wheels. This is a dark picture of the first wheel I made. It has a 30" throat with a lower adjuster, and it has a little slop in it I didn't like. Now it is set up to run rubber upper wheel for forming, and a tipping wheel. I can switch it over in about 3 min....
The second wheel i made has a 42" throat and it has a 10" cast upper wheel(changed since this picture). It's a very stiff frame and it is dedicated to hard wheels.
And this is a wheel I made out of the first model a axle I dropped. I bent it into the c shape, but it was to soft so I built a frame around it.
I've been working on another wheel to replace the model a wheel. The upper wheel is going to be on a stub shaft to give me more clearance around the upper. It is real hard to build one frame suited for everything. I had the room (not any more:() so I just kept building....

Yes I allways wanted one and I had my eye on this one for twenty years before I bought it in a very poor state. I had to sell another wheeling machine to get it.

    Hey scoot,

The English use these ''thru-shafts'' as a beading or more correctly swaging tool. The shaft extends through the frame of the wheel, and allows for the handle to be bolted to it, and thus drives the shaft when cranked. Many different profiles of anvils can be used to produce different swage lines including tapered ,for use in a ''falling wasteline'' as featured on many "razoredge'' designs utilized by English coachbuilders from the 30s on.

Can anyone advise, is the "Trident" wheel, as in HECKO IN CANADA, a recast of the british Edwards or Ranalah wheels?

    Awesome!!! Thanks Rex! Very interesting!

So how come more people aren't building "welded" type frames with a "thru-shaft" like these English designs?

Is Trident still around?? Have a link??

Scoot, my WAG says as to why more arn't building frames with ''thru-shafts'' is that they don't know 'bout their utility. Too, most guys have drank the Kool-Aid bout power beading/swaging maghines being the only way to swage a panel. I have never seen a picture of a pre/post war panel shop in England that featured any power equipment, ditto the dago coachbuilders, can't speak bout the french, as so few pictures are out there.

The Trident wheels I though were/are produced by Trident Tools Canada.

Anyone showing how to use those types of wheels or at least demonstrating their "purpose" and "functions"??? Would love to see some examples/videos!

Please don't flame me....but I have to ask.

    swage a panel?

What does this mean? I have heard of swaging tube but not sure a panel.
