Cool, finally an old thread with the first poster after a long gap being the original starter of the the thread.
From experience I can full and well say that it doesn't do to work on a rod or custom when you aren't 100% into it. When that happens it, time to let it rest a bit and do just like you did until you are ready to hit it with a fresh mind and enthusiasm.

The car looks good to me. I'm a serious fan of suicide doors as they have been on my truck since 1982.

Nice looking sedan, and I love Pop's car, reminds me of my first rod, but Dad's is way nicer. Dark colors are hot, show sirt & dust, how about a nice clean cream with accents. The car is spectacular it doesn't need some gaudy color to make it stand out. I had detail shops in So Cal and took care of paint for folks, so I respect what the soft light colors can do to maintain a nice look. Tan is good, man I am exciting as a beige rug. ~sololobo~

Glad you brought this thraed back up, missed it first time around. Good to see pics of the car you've told me about.
Picked a color yet? Hondurance maroon someone mentioned would be a good choice, was always popular. Like someone else mentioned can't go wrong with some of the early Ford factory colors, we picked out 32 Ford Brewster green for the Vicky I'm building and we love it.

Bottom photo, by chance was that taken at a run up in the Sandias in the 70's? Looks familer, if so I was there and that makes me old.

You should be able to get the canister seal and bolt seal from Napa. Checker won't have it.

I know you said something about people might not liking the approach you took like suicide doors and no handles ,You follow what you like as far as the purist goes there are plenty of other forums for you cookie cutter car builders.Your only limit to what you can do is your imagination.
