I have the same cab and I made my own frame from 2X4 tubing with a 118" wheelbase, parallel leafs springs in the back with a staright axle in front. I've put over 24,000 miles on it in 2-1/2 years and the thing handles like a dream. I went with 118" wheelbase because my wifes 37 Buick Roadmaster has it and it drives great. Your wheelbase will mainly depend on the style of truck. My theory is, the longer the better for handling. My truck is around 6 feet long from the firewall to the nose.

[IMG]My wheelbase is 113 1/4" on my pickup. This was made for a chopped up, (sectioned, chopped, narrowed, oh hell.... I tried to make it look like a Ford), '48 Chevy body but I swapped out for the '35 Ford when it became available.

I hope you dont mind, but i took your pic for a joyride, did a little photochopping to show myself a visual idea of what I want to do with my truck once I can work on it again.

Great trucks ,all of them . Key word runnin thru this thread seems too be "fun". Just finishing up 4 years on the road with mine and it sure has been fun Have met a ton of nice people. A few have even become friends . Well here's mine , 120" wheel base , 42-46 Chevy cab , 38 Chevy car grill , extended hood . Had to change to radials as my 73 yr old body needed some help on the long rides .

Love your truck. I'm at the end of my third year with my truck and have put 24,000 miles on it. When I was building mine, I had to build it different than I wanted to, like I wanted more of a chop, but I knew I was going to drive the s__t out of it. I wanted a shorter bed but I had to have place for clothes and stuff. Oh well.

I think your choice to build it, to fit your needs, is more important. Having a radical chop or shorter bed for 'look', is a choice I would foregoe also. You'll always appreciate the head-room and will get used to the longer bed.

This is going to be my fenderless hot rod. It took me 30+ years to get ahold of the truck.
