Very cool, wasn't "Romeo" Palamides first "Al" before he changed his name, or was that a brother? He was a legend, dragsters, lakesters, jet cars...didn't know he started out in this modified...

 

I can't let this thread go by without putting in some pix of my younger brothers 32rpu. He picked this vehicle up in the late 60's from a young guy who had tried to rod it, but didn't know shit from clay! It was a bit of an abortion. Still had the original 4 banger & spokes on it, but the body was RS Ian's a 'beater & painter', so this vehicle got the works. Total strip down. My uncle was a cabinet maker and got the job of fabricating a new body frame - steam bent timber in the curved bits and all. I think he also made the bows for the ragtop, as well as redecking the tray back. Big brother me said don't get rid of the 4 banger! It was a goer, and go it did! Dunno where. The wire spokes ended up as windows in Ian's bluestone block workshop - looked cool as well. He picked up a truck motor and had it refurbished, all the usual young blood stuff, but without going over the top. I think the offy heads came a bit later, as did the McCullough Blower. I know the blower was in a mates 39 roadster, maybe the heads came out of it as well! 9 coats of black enamel made it look like glass. The doors probably close better than when new. A great job, done the way the old guys did - DIY. These pix come form the ASRF Nat's in 1997. We drove from Victoria to Goulburn for the Nat's and then onto Queensland - approx. 1500km. We believe it's the only one left in Oz. Still seen at many ASRF events today.

1930's - 40's.

Cletus Clovis' custom/hot rod (billed as the world's first "street rod") was built circa 1933, based on a 1932 Ford. I don't have any further information on the two T's.

Unfortunately, no. There is a thread on here somewhere from a few years back where we discussed it. Nobody recognized it or knew any history on it.

 

I have seen the photo on the right somewhere before. I seem to believe that it is Clint Eastwood.

Looks to me like he is about 16 or 17 in the photo, which would place it in 1946-47.

 

You have to wonder how many of those old hot rods where scraped during the metal drives for the war effort!!!

 

Notice the window says Lee's Speed Shop?? That's on East 14th in Oakland- The World Famous Lee's building is still there, but I have NEVER seen a photo of the front of the shop back in the day-- COOL!!!!!

Also has anyone commented on that being Jack Calori's Roadster in front of lee's speed shop?

 

i thought the exact thing,even searched pics of the Calori to verify...but didnt go back to read the other 50 paes to see if that had been mentioned as being Jack's.

Can anyone tell me what the wheels are on the RPU of Ted Colley?? that pick up is to cool for school!!!!!!!

 

In the last pic, they look like '36-'39 Ford wide-fives. Sorry I can't be more certain, iPhone screen...

Yeah, 16"s............The lack of pinstripe does make them stand out a little, I like that.

 

Pre-war built '26 T roadster pickup. All owners documented. Built in California. Owned by So-Cal at some point in its life. Everything on it is just as it was built in the Thirties, except for the top.

It has a reversed eye front spring, Studebaker wire wheels, custom gas tank, a Rajo overhead valve conversion on a T engine, a Model A gearbox inside the T tranny housing, Ruckstell two speed rear end, and a two speed auxiliary transmission. That gives it twelve forward gears by my count!

That's all that I know about it, so far. I talked to the current owner last weekend. I'm in email communication with him.
