Yeah! I think that if a car sits too low, it loses it's character and doesn't even look like a car anymore. Also, too much of a chop makes a car look a little funny. When I was younger I sometimes got carried away and thought that extremes are cool. Sometimes they still can be, but after you've seen the extreme a couple of times, it's nothing anymore. Many of the custom cars that I like the most are actually kind of mild. But these are just opinions, it's good that everyone has his/her own!

Dean Jeffries' Porsche certainly looks classy - at least I think so..

Regardless if you're having a bad day (and sorry to hear it) or not, I tend to agree with your thinking on kustoms. Today's "builders" seem to think that extreme was the norm back when...it was not.

Unfortunately, that mindset is what gets ugly cars today...the HAMB not excluded from such ugliness.

Sorry about my little rant. Gotta vent once in awhile. I once had the honor of working with Russ Meeks for a good number of years as well as Donn Lowe for way too short of time. While at Donn's Harry Bradley said... "Dont make a change to just make a change" That has stuck with me and I cant shake it. It should improve the looks... not detract.

 

to me if a car is customized in a way that is "classy" the customizations don't necessarily jump out at you. they are subltle, they are cohesive. you would almost have to park a stocker next to the custom to see all that has been changed.
that to me is the difference between "whoa" and "wow".

No apologies necessary on this thread! It is about Classy Customs.

When I'm at a local show, my Mild Custom is practically invisible. It's definitely invisible when the chopped, suicide doored, air-bagged, flat black with full length metal flake seaweed flamed Shoebox Ford parks next to me and lays frame!

Some folks can't see the classy lady once the bleach blonde with all the outrageous plastic surgery walks into the room no matter how cartoony it looks.

Yep, looks a bit gaudy to me too. Just as well we're all different. I'm with the above posters regarding laying frame. Leave it for the mini trucks... they look f*****g stoopid, but no-one cares. Customs, especially classy ones, look dumb when they sit on the ground, IMO.

lots of very nice cars on this thread.
early on someone said they didnt think primered cars fit the bill as classy. i agree. but next week the same car may ooze class when it rolls out of the paint booth.
bags and hydraulics, in my opinion, dont add or subtract class to a car. how it is displayed in combination with all the other modifications as well as fit and finish are what make a car classy.
ride height is only one aspect of the total package. a car can be nearly stock height or an inch off the ground, but it has to complement the rest of the car to make the car classy.
laid out will always have a cartoonish appeal but not classy. for example, there are many classy lowriders, but they are not the ones with clownish stances. even if they are capable of it.
all in all i like low and think stance is only one aspect of classy.

Yeah nice one Ian, i've always liked this build. It has separated itself from the "cookie cutter" label and become an interesting car to admire.

I’m surprised that Jeff Myer’s ’57 Caddy hasn’t been mentioned yet. Jeff was the chauffer
for my daughter’s Junior prom. It was very kool to see one of the classiest Kustoms ever
built used as a driver. Just because they are classy doesn’t mean ya can’t drive them.
