Are keystone klassics kool?

They looked kool on the '70's Plymouth 'Cudas and Dusters.. But other than those...... I say no!

 

I had a set on my 70 Duster. Looked good. 4's on the front and 8's on the rear with t a radials... that's when I was a senior in high school in '75

I never liked them and the only car I seen them on that sorta looked right was a 65 Mustang.

 

Sorry about the O/T car ,..... But I just gave these Keystones to my son for a car he's building (a 69 Mach 1),... And good old Cragar SS are going on this 68, until I can find a decent set of Magnum 500's.

(The Keystone Klassic's were my Brothers favorite wheel,... I was never a big fan)

I just found a better picture,... they don't look bad, just not my cup of tea,.. And actually a friend had a set on a black 67' Cougar one time and they looked pretty "ginchy" on that car. but not for a truly traditional car.

 

I like 'em but they have to be the original design from the 60's.

 

To each his own I guess, but personally, I
didn't even like 'em, 'back in the day" when
they were new.

Hated them then.............still hate them today.
A friend had the first set I ever saw on a light blue '64 Corvette roadster back in 1966.
I thought they cheapened the car, too many sharp edges, too shiny. Looked like they would be more at home on some pimp-mobile.
I know..just my honest opinion

 

I like 'em. Bought a pair cheap that were painted blue with a spray can, had 'em stripped, sanded the rims, painted the centres black and mounted some old TAs...just to look at. I say cool but not hamb friendly for sure.

 

Wow,I just went through this entire thread only to find that it had been brought back from the dead twice! So after all that I guess I'll have my say. I'm not fond of five spoke anythings on hamb friendly rides, but this is coming from a guy that thinks that 1963 should be the cut-off point for everything in the world

I always liked them, even back in the 60s, don't see them very often.

 

I'll admit I used to not really like them till I found that pair of skinnies for cheap. I've seen them go for $600+ on ebay and just 2 original style center caps go for $70+. Then I found the wide ones for $65 and just had to buy them. They've really grown on me. You just don't see the old style ones anymore. Everyone used to run them on their drag cars back in the 60s/70s but now no one has them. Definitely not hamb friendly though. Heck I even have a pair of 15x8's for ford/mopar and I don't even own one!

 

Klassics are kinda ugly but Kustomag is boss. I've got a nice matching set that are going to get these gold tires on them. I spent the time to smooth out and polish the little "scallops" on the side of each spoke, I think it's much better looking this way.





They were available in '64, at least, this style was.

I also got a set of Cragar Street/Pro wheels which was basically Cragar's knock off of the Keystone, and since the centers were already shitty, I blasted them and painted them. With the webbing in-between blacked out I think they're quite nice looking.

 

I was just looking through a '64 PHR, there was an ad for keystones, picture of them on a Corvette. I agree with a lot of guys, on a late sixties Mopar, they are the ticket. Not really suitable for HAMB type cars, while they came out in '64, they seemed to be slow to take off, did not catch on till the late sixties. Keystone can thank Sox & Martin for that...

 

Sox and Martin thought they were OK. Pure '70s rolling stock.

 

I kinda dig these. My stepdad had a set on a old Dodge van. Pretty cool.

My friend had them on an '81 V6 Camaro. He had 50 series Radial T/A's on the rear that had more tread outside the wheelwell than in,and that pretty much ruined them for me. His wheels had the black centers. That car was terrible. Did I mention the air shocks,chrome traction bars,and twelve inch glasspacks?? The poor guy had a rough life,but had pretty much straightened himself out. He got killed on a motorcycle when the rear axles came loose from a truck and hit him.

They look good skinnys and fats on a '65 galaxy.

 

Now all you need is a gold plated 9mm, some gradient tint sunglasses and a big pile of coke. Oh and unbutton your silk shirt about 3 buttons down. Bam, late 70's bad ass.

Seems like most people in my home town area in the 70's had either these or Cragar S/S's. I preferred the Cragars but IMHO these looked ok on the "classier", not hot rod cars. Point is, if you like 'em that's all that counts. ​

 

Cool in my book, but as most of you stated, as long as they are on the right car. The 62 Nova below rocked it imo.

 

I always liked how they look but could never find a set at a decent price. Painted gold between the spokes instead of black, they are killer as far as I'm concerned.

I dig'em Keystones 70s lowriders wear'em just like any other mag. and they sure work there...or in a muscle car.
Its just a matter of what era youre goin for. doesnt seem like a big deal.
