Those look like the "make your own" log manifold kits from old... and they look y-block to me.

 

Can you give some history about the "make your own" log manifold kits??? I am unfamiliar with them.

P.S. Aren't the "Y" block ports vertical???

 

No, ports are horizontal for a Y -block

 

They look like an early Olds or Cad.

Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Lincoln; any casting numbers to identify if no manufacturers details.They look like cast and not U-fab with water outlet cast into manifold? Don't look like MOPAR or Studebaker.

 

Key might be water goose neck location. What had 2 goose necks. I can only think of the flatheads.

 

Not Caddy, no water necks on the manifolds for the Cad. Also the bolt holes, end 2 slightly offset from the center 2, Caddy's and Stude's are straight in line. I'll go along with Y block maybe.

They look like Olds U-Fab intakes.

Back in the '50s and '60s you could buy log intakes that came in pieces they were called U-Fab or U-Weld intakes; you got all the tubing and the flanges and you welded them together yourself.

It was a cheaper do it yourself intake than say the cast edelbrocks or whatevers of the time period. There are a couple of fellas here in the mid west that are tooling up to repop them for the fellas that really want to do it the old way.

I put them up against the Y block heads I have and no go. They do fit Early olds 88 but the water necks are a mystery. My Pop's welded these up and he is well known as a "do it yourself" kind of guy, How well do they perform? They look ported enough to naturally aspirate a ton of air. Has anybody run this type of manifold before? I'm not sure they are really all that and abag of chips....

 

We called them dumpers or call them dumpers. They do alright not anything comparable to a newer dual plane ot even a single plane but they work well enough. they are a kind of an all th way on or all the way off intake.

I have been looking at the water passages that go to the rear jackets on the head and don't fully understand them I'm guessing that those particular manifolds were water heated some how.

EDIT: nope, bolt pattern wrong for the water jackets... dang.

 

Crower did the U-fabs, I think that they came out before the cast versions...you could get them for about any V-8, even Packards.

 

HMMM, looks like early Olds to me. Look at the ports on my log manifold. I think they are similar. Water necks are unusual. Pic attached for comparison.

I don't think so. The old Crower "U-Fab"
and other "build-it-yourself' type log
intakes were all made of steel tubing and
these appear to be aluminum castings.

Also, even though the ports are siamesed,
going by the size and location of them, I'm
thinking the intake is likely for an early Olds.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they are Galvanized.... you can see some rust on them is certain places.... woops... pertinent detail I'm sure.... sorry

 

Perfect then for Drag applications???? I know someone who would just LOVE to have these.... eh Rocket Joe????

 

Maybe the water necks are an addition for drag racing, water filled block and no radiator. My SBC powered Lyndwood was setup that way.

 

I would guess maybe a drag boat application? That may explain the galvanizing, and some type of odd boat cooling system.
