This car was Bill Hines' first attempt at "The Bat Car", just un-earthed this week. It will be on display with quite a bit of its story avail. at the Billetproof Michigan show May 21, 2011 at Riverside Park in Ypsi.

It currently belongs to someone else, but Teddy has been consulted and is in on the whole deal. He has verfied the car and has offered up some info on it.

we are working on a nice story and photo shoot at Billetproof... both of which will appear in one of everyone's favorite hot rod magazines soon.:D

I thought that was the original Bat? There was a blurb years back in one of the magazines about it being the original car but another owner cut the top off to make a bubble top custom...it also mentioned that Bill didnt buy it back cause he thought it was to far gone...cool to see it get a shot at being re born!

That'll be very cool to see.
Hope the park somewhat dries out by showtime!

  12. This has got to have one Krazzy story to go with it. How could anyone own it and not try to get Bill to finish it for them? That thing is Wild.

  13. Looks like something straight out of 'Creature of the Black Lagoon' . . . it may be a valuable piece of history, but it seems to have too many different personalities (I understand that it was never completed). It looks like a car that has about 3 different styles/identities . . . can't figure out which one it wants to be.

  16. This is not the original Bat unless someone put a top back on it. The original was in the 1958 Autorama and I saw it being built in Hines shop on Dix. The original was chopped and I watched the rear fins being put on the car. I don't think this is the original.
If this is the original car, someone welded a stock height top back on, and then modified every panel on the car.
Of course Bill Hines can tell you real quick what the true story is.
The beauty of the original Bat was before it was scalloped and that ruined the lines for me.

I read the same thing, about the car "rotting away" in a field as it was deemed unrestorable. Can anyone confirm that this is the same car? Or is that a different car, and has it been rescued? Would love to hear more.

It does look like the original Bat which got the bubbletop...but somebody has welded on a replacement shoebox sedan roof...you can tell where it doesn't fit right at the beltline, because Bill Hines sectioned the rear trunk area on the original Bat, bringing it down in between the rear fins...and those fins also resemble what was on the original Bat...at least the front half and top edge of them...I'd bet my money on what people are saying that this is the original Bat...cool find!

  24. Looking forward to seeing it in person.Never saw it as a bubble top custom but it looks like it might have been wild. The rear has some conflicting lines.Looks like either 60 Buick or modified 57 Lincoln fins on the rear and 59 Dodge front fender sections. The shape of the headlight openings remind me of the Barris Stude 4 door with the frosted glass covers. If I owned it,I'd probably cut the roof off again and find someone to blow a bubble top for it.Just me.

it's ugly...but still a cool find...I'd put a bubbletop on it...I think it would help ease the look of that front end at least :)

It's looks more like a four door..the door looks a bit short to be a door from a coupe..but can't tell from the angle of the picture..
