By the time you have read all these responses someone else has bought, loaded, and restored or sold the car to someone who didn't need advice and is sitting in his livingroom recliner reading this and counting his suitcase full of $100 bills again.

Buy it, part out the pos 409 for enough to recoup your costs, put a nice 283 in for fun cruising and good mileage.

 

Very desirable car. Assuming all the parts are there and numbers match, I'd offer $10k for it.

 

I would not split that up if it were mine,I have to agree with the 10 to 12,000 mark at least,i sold a 62 Qb block last summer for 2500.00 just the block,62s are the hardest to find that arent cracked,Big heads are another 2500 a set,the car itself,being a bigblock 4 speed is easily 5 to 7500,if the frame and floors are not gone,The only thing that could be better is if it was a bubbletop.Dont snooze littleman,you will regret it.

 

That is an original Muscle Car. The 413s, 409s, 389s and 406s started it.

I have to agree on this. This car is where the B/J cars start out. If this has the build sheet stuffed under the back seat or above the gas tank it BIG BUCKS period. IF you don't want to do it, find someone that does and get it to them. Scott Tieman in Portland, MI comes to mind. He restores some of the best int he business. (ie the recently found factory Tempest that sold on Ebay comes to mind)

This would be like throwing lots of money to the wind, to separate a car like this. Holy Shit! Some peoples kids!

Hope you got it already--worth $10K minimum-09 cars are scarce and the correct engine parts are very expensive as many have already said. I'd have done my best to have it home already.

 

Most importantly, make sure the paperwork is matching the car!!

 

I wouldn't believe the story if it wasn't from someone you know you can believe. That car is one of the premiere cars out there. 32 Ford, 40 Willy's, 62 Impala 409. Hell, the car has a song about it.

 

I would be all over this thing for anything less than 9-10K.

 

Buy the car already...... I will buy a t-shirt in 2xl to help the cause!!

 

what he said....1 - owner - 409 stuff by "ITSELF" brings big bucks....just had a call Thursday from the guy who bought my SS427 car...looking for "09" blocks....

 

I would buy it in a hot second, you don't find that kind of car evry day just laying around. I think it's worth what the seller will take and what you'll pay, either way I would not leave with out it.

 

If I was you. I would buy that thing as fast as I could. Great find and lots of potential.

By the sound and looks of it, I´d say that´d be an "element" definitely worth looking to get "into", rather sooner than later.
The kind of car it is, equipped the way and with the history You described, if You were to get it out of there with everything that came off the car, and just pieced it back together, I guarantee You wouldn´t be sorry whether You kept it for Yourself to enjoy out on the open road, or decided to pass it on to someone else.

Just back from talking to the owner...he does not live where the car is @....Made an offer and he told be to call back next Saturday.....He is fairly wise to its worth so I offered a touch more than I wanted...but got him to possibly throw in another 409 63-64 engine w/ the good heads if he takes my offer...

The story is this.....He bought it new in 62...he really wanted to buy a Corvette but his parents refused to sign for that...so he told him he would buy a full size car and they said sure not really understanding the potential of a 409 4 speed car..ha ha ha, I thought that was funny.....He street raced it all the time....left for the service......When he got out him and the car hit the streets again in 1967......His very first street race after he was home from the service...He said he only won by six or so car lengths....He was pissed for he thought he should have won by more and placed the car up on jack stands and tore it down to rebuild...He said getting married/ divorced/work/taking care of the parents the years passed by......The car has been on the jack stands since mid to late 1967........Littleman

I'd call him mid week just to keep him thinking about it and to let him know you're serious. The car is easily 12 to 15k as it sits assuming it's complete, good luck with it!

 

If ya get her bought, document his stories and your adventure with this purchase. Makes real good reading for us who have never had the opportunity for a car like this! I love the car!

 

I am trying to do the math someone correct my estimations

62-67 =5 years = 5 x12 =60 months
-time in military service ...say 30 months?
60-30 =30 months roughly driving time

15,000 /30 =500 miles month

500/4=125 miles a week

500/30 =16.5? a day..its still new !

mileage ..say 10 mpg

15000/10 = 1500 gallons

1500 gallons @1965 prices
1500 x.18= $270.00 gas used !!!!

size of gas tank?(15?)
filled gas tank 100 times
$2.70 per fill

it still may have $2.00's worth of gas in it!

I TELL YOU THAT CAR IS WORTH BIG BUCKS FOR A GUY WITH BIG BUCKS. MOST GUYS THAT HAVE THAT TYPE OF MONEY WANT THAT CAR 100 PERCENT ORIGINAL OR RESTORED. BUT PUT ALL BACK TOGETHER. THE CAR IS WORTH MONEY BUT ALL TOGETHER SO MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL THE PARTS NOT 90 OR 95 PERCENT BUT 100 PERCENT. THAT IS WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE IT OR BREAK IT. MOST OF US OUT HERE ARE WORKING ON OR BUILT CARS THE GUY THAT GOES OUT TO BUY A CAR DONE WANTS IT RUNNING.
