I probobly will put it back again when i hav rebuilt the floor but for now i works without problems.

  2. That portion of the floor the snubber is hitting is a boxed section. I made a raised section for my `62 and gave it plenty of clearance. Also made a new drivshaft tunnel the the front of the rear seat bottom.

Nice car. Can`t wait to see this one finised!

Nice! I'm going to be using the mesh grill and crossbar from a '58 Fairlane on my '63 Newport.

I just bought a '61 Saratoga grille insert for my '62. Bolts right in and it's a real clean design, just horizontal bars, almost like a custom tube grille. Much prettier than the '62 inserts in my opinion. I like the '62 surround better (no lettering on it) but with the '61 insert. Here's a pic of a stock '61 to show what that insert looks like.

It's your car so you don't have to listen, but I think your outside door handles are bitchin. Rather than lose em completely, what if you raised em up several inches. You'd have to look inside the door to see if it opens a can of worms to do it that way. If they could get to the same hgt as the 1/4 panel feature line...

    Nice progress!
I would top off the roof with a good layer of Metalflake myself.

Definitly alter the driveshaft tunnel first before driving the car without that axle snubber!
Not doing so will make the driveshaft dig into the tunnel occasionally and wear/grind itself down and weaken it locally. This will cause a safety hazard at accelerations and high(er) speeds.

I dident paint it myself,my friend who work as a painter did it.
He painted the light green base color then we masked the fields and put some lace over them and painted the darker green over that.

Building a grille for that car would be a piece of cake...

Use flat aluminum stock - 1/8" X 1/1/2" or 2"...stack it up with a square nut (or 1/2" square piece of the aluminm stock) between them. Use "all-thread" rod to hold them all together...looks like it's straight all the way across...no need to add a point in the center.

Here's a shot of my Caddy grille...altho this one has been lazer cut to fit the hood/bumper shape, you get the idea...

    R-

Next thing will be to remove the door handles.

  27. Excellent! You are doing to your ride what I'm doing to mine: Shave the handles & emblems, lose the mirror & bumper guards, etc. I was going to say leave the grill as it is. Simple is good. Until I saw that Caddy grill which is killer! I need to find out how to do that to mine..........

  28. Tube grilles are nice but I'm thinking chrome drawer pulls. And keep the door handles; they are cool looking and can be a pain in the ass when removed.
