History El Mirage Colour photos from 1948-49!

That guy in the middle,in that last photo is Dick Lenarz,my best frineds dad!!! He worked at Bell Auto Parts. He worked on those two cars that the Berardini Bros ran. Berardini's daughter is a HAMB member!!!!

 

Haven't you guys seen Robert Genat's book????? All of these pics and many more are in there........these are nothing new.......

Like the rest of you guys, I can't get enough of these old dry lakes photos. I enjoy looking at the random things that show up in the background (almost) as much as the actual car the photo was taken of.

Thanks for posting these!---I was in hi school 1946-1950 at Inglewood,Ca. when all these guys were running the different lakes, at that time, the names Pierson,Mckinley,Torvick,Rickson, were all over the guys lips during the week at school, then we headed out for whichever lake they were running (Muroc,Russeta,El Mirage,Rogers,Rosamond,---etc. on Friday night or Sat.

When returning to school on Monday all the talk was exchanged among the guys about who was who & how fast they went!!----Don

Thanks all for posting the slides my father took of the race of 1948 at El Mirage Lake. I have about 21-25 slides that I'm going to be donating to the Petersen Automotive Museum soon. My father Warren Durkee did not ever own a race car but was friends with Jack Lehmann and William Swartzrock. Here is a photo of my father.
