Do you mean the ones with the H-60 Polyglass tires sticking out from under the rear fenders an inch and a half?? Not my favorite decade for Deuces for the most part. All I can remember are the ones that had to have the latest lace paint jobs. I know there were some cool ones but there were an ass load of screwed up Deuces in the 60s....IMHO. Now you all can prove me wrong.
The very first Hot Rod I saw was sometime around 1960-61, a '32 Cabriolet with a 392 HEMI. In the mind of a 10-11 year old it was the greatest thing on earth, an AMT kit in real life. Years later I found a two page feature on the car in one of the "Little Pages" East Coast magazines. Reality sucks, I'll post photos when I find that magazine, it is around here somewere.

My Dad's five window in 1960..making the cut, but probably a bit early style-wise. Wish I could find the old girl. I have my right testicle ready to go.... Pretty sure that the gold paint job was pre-60.
I agree, and your choice of the one on the right sure looks like '56-'60. but I actually took that photo at the the Cowtown Nationals at KC Royals Stadium in June of '87 and it was a new build then. It was an example of traditional revivalism at a time when that the concept was in short supply. The photo came from this thread I started a couple of years ago, although it was not just 60's. Doyle and Tom. End of discussion. There was nothing resembling either one of these cars when they came onto the scene in the mid 60's. It was a time of " whitewalls are your Dad's tires".
Except for the rears sticking out and the IFS, I am trying for similar. Pic from Carnut. I recall a 3/4 rear view pic of this car 41 years ago in magazine coverage of the first Nats in Peoria..that one pic got me out of muscle cars and into old rods in real life. My own 32 build looked wrong to me untill I found fenders last week. I am close to 60, so these build types are what I remember from my own area. Why copy someone elses memories
That was state of the art in the sixties. I never knew anyone that got a rear end narrowed to get the tires inside the fenders so it had to sit so high to prevent tire rubbing. I think that is a Corvair front end which was also state of the art for a home builder. Easy and cheap. Most of the cars from the 60s were home built and not mega buck builds. We've come a long way since then. This is exactly what I remember at the rod runs. The magazine cars were pure fantasy for my crowd. We wore plaid bell bottom slacks too. Cool at the time but I don't want to wear any today. It's sorta the same deal for me.

the one that pretty well did it for anyone lucky enough to be a teenager in the 60's was this shot of McMullen's car this car had it all...the blown motor, the flames, the, well...everything all balled up into one car if there is on car that can be labeled as the ONE iconic deuce, in my mind, this would be it...hands down
It was the 're-vamped' version in 76....? with the 4 x 48 IDA webbers after i saw that in Street Rodder i went out and sourced an inlet for my SBC only to find i couldn't afford the carbs to go with it.......... . .
