You are correct about that; I will add, however, that I showed in many shows in and around Wichita and I can assure you that they "got" the Southern Cal look much better than your typical midwestern area.

Maybe it had something to do with the shops of Starbird, the Titus brothers, the Cushenbery cousins, and Dave Stuckey being there throughout the 60's!

A couple of mine from last night on my way back home. 250 mile trip. Car was at LG Kustoms & Hotrods in Edmonton. They did 52 merc headlights filled gas door & relocated filler and extended rear quarters with 55 Chev/ lee lenses upside down for taillights. I think it looks killer, now I just have to block it prime it and paint it.
    Here's a before.

Sorry 'bout the crappy cel phone pics. 2.5 hrs sleep in 48 and too much coffee don't help either.

Here's a few more ColoRODo kustoms...

    R-

Greg Pittman's daughter and her Imperial-

    Her brother's Chrysler-

Don't know whose '53 Ford this is...

Right on the edge of a "kustom" look, this is a '64 I built, and sold, some years ago...it does have a few kustom touches to it.

My brother Dan owns this '54 Caddy...model is Lacy Lane.

    My son's '59 Caddy-

My good pal, Ron Brown's '56 Caddy-

My '57 Chevy, long about 1975 or so...I owned this car for close to forty years, re-did it three times, finally sold it in 2001, it was Dove Grey, had American 200S Daisy's on it, a hand-built billet grille, molded bumpers painted body color, Corvette taillights and pink and blue graphics and not HAMB friendly...!!!. You can see the car in Tim Remus's coffee table book entitled "Custom Cars & Lead Sleds", published about '95.

And of course, I cannot forget to post my NEXT kustom project...found this one in Kansas...home to several pack rats... different grille, bumpers, whites and skirts are in the plans...no chop tho...!!!
