    Great thread!

9N, 2N, and 8N Ford farm tractors used the same hollow Johnson adjustable lifters as Ford V8 Flatheads.

  6. Here is an interchange I bet a lot of you already knew...but I just found out the money in my wallet is an exact swap for my daughter's bills.Fits perfectly according to her.

It's better than that; 57 - 72 F-100's 9"ers are the correct pad spacing, overall width, and bolt pattern as '48 - '52 pickups. The tubes are 3" instead of 2.5", so you have to use different spring plates and U-bolts, and figure out a lower shock mount. Also need to correct pinion angle with shims.

#1 I have heard that vent cables from a 80s jeep cheerokee will work in tri five chevies???

#2 I used hubs, bearings, backing plates etc. off of a 52 ford 1/2 ton front axle to slide directly on a 56 3/4 ton axle to convert to 5 lug.
someone else said they used a small shim behind the inner bearing not sure why, mine seemed to fit perfect???
Other years 56 back may interchange also.

#3 Everyone probably knows 81 camaro, nova, etc back, trans crossmembers work in tri five chevy cars with 350 trans etc. after welding or bolting small (angle iron)brackets to the frame.............they will also work in those year trucks just by laying it rite in the frame channel and drilling some holes.

back from the dead, so lets add something..

    Nailhead 364/401/425 for sure
rear main seal, neoprene seal from an 80's Buick 3.8
front timing cover seal, neoprene early 70's Buick 455
    cheap and plentiful.

AMC disc brake upgrade... Used on my '65 Rambler, works on a ton of others.
late 70's AMC Spirit spindles, rotors, calipers

  10. I used springs, spring hangers, and shackles from an '80 Isuzu pickup to hang the '74 Camaro rear in Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup.
Early '80s Hondas have an inline cable operated heater control valve that can be used on just about anything.
I found that a '70s Ford Courier (Mazda) pickup clutch master and slave cylinders worked very well in rigging up a hydraulic clutch system on my '38 Ford pickup using '52-'56 Ford pedal assembly, small block Chevy, and T-5 5 speed.
Old vacuum cleaner flex hoses (free at the dump) can be cut to length and used to replace deteriorated defroster ducts on many cars.

Great thread, one that I can add is a 67 Nova rear fits well under the back of a late 30's GM. its plenty narrow enough to add spacer/adaptors to match the front 5x5 bolt pattern.

Also a 1954 Chevy passenger car brake switch picked up at most auto stores, can be used as a cheap mechanical switch and is similar to the fancy ones that the hotrod parts places sell

and a roll of trailer lighting wire is a cheap way to wire up break, and turn lites on a hot rod

the front rear spring hanger bolt is same on most GM from 34-54

add some more if ya got 'em!

This pales in comparison to the previous posts, but... 6 Cylinder Chevy points are interchangeable with the Harley Davidson Points. Some of yall may not remember when Harleys had points.

    Great thread, thanks to all.

With minimal convincing, 318 Poly exhaust flanges can be attached to Ford 390 headers.

    318 Poly Gasket:

    Ford 390 gasket:

ALL 318 Polys ALL use regular old Small Block Mopar parts, except for the cam, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, and valve covers. The distributor, pistons (flat top), rods, timing cover, water pump, alternator, lifters, oil pump and oil pans are all Small Block Mopar.

The '57 - '62 cranks poke out, and need an early Hemi adapter to bolt to a modern transmission (other than that, they're identical to a Small Block Mopar). The '62 - '66 (1967 in Canada) models share the identical crank with the Small Block Mopar, and can be bolted to any transmission the Small Block Mopar can be bolted to, from the A-833, to a Dodge Dakota transmission, from a TF727, to a Viper 6-speed or a 904.

first things first, 49-54 chevy cars have the pin for the rear leaf spring in front of the axle so if you're converting to open drive either buy a kit or do your math :)

anyways simple things most already know but just incase some one doesnt. (I learned most of this the hard way:) )

49-54 car pg rear has a 3:36 r&p vs the 4:11 in the 3spd so swap it out an hit the highway! also these rears can normally be picked up super cheap from a junk yard or field car.

tri 5 rears are the perfect width if you wanna convert to open drive, however do your research on what year your rear is as 57 bearings are a one year only bearing that is PRICEY!

or be a cheap dude such as myself and pick you up a s-10 4x4 rear from a junk yard for $70. the 4x4 rears are 4" wider and fit correctly, just gotta move your axle pads.

when changing your 216/235 to open use a 47-54 truck bellhousing or a 55-62 car bell housing and any post 55 till the 80's manual chevy trans will bolt up, The 80's ones will bolt up but you gotta shorten the input shaft 3/4" I think?

I used a 58 biscayne 3spd with a borg warner OD unit :) and a tri five drive shaft bolted directly in place no problems!

oh and the stock k-member just needs to be modified to accept the 2 bolt chevy trans mount, falls in place perfectly. I do suggest going with a 2 bolt vs a 1 bolt mount though.

oh and last but not least if you are doing disc brakes on a 49-54 and need a dual resi use a 70's vette mounted behind your oem M/C and leave your stock pedals there!!!
Just hollow out your stock M/C and mount the new one behind it, then make a long push rod that runs right through your stock M/C into the new one:)

and last last but not least, no matter what car you use any kind of MII or clip on KEEP your stock column!!!

cut yout column and shaft 10" or so out side the fire wall (where ever it needs to be to have the right angle) but leave your shaft about 3" or 4" hanging out past the column, have a machine shop double d your shaft to accept a borgeson and have them spin you up a nylon bushing that fits tight over the shaft
and is tight against the ID of the column, make sure you leave an 1/8" lip in the front. you can either use a set screw to hold it in or mave it machined to a press fit. I like to be safe so I say press fit with a machine screw. And remember guys this has to fit spot on or there will be some slop in your steering! no beuno:)

any one that has any questions on 49-54 passenger stuff feel free to pm me, I definately dont know it all but I have done a good bit them and am always willing to help where I can.

Recently replaced broken door latch springs in "30 A moredoor with the springs from door kit for 26-29 pickup. the ends need to be trimmed about 1/4 inch. use your dremel. this means cost to replace went from 180 to 30!

Awesome lost thread, learned a few new things today. Wish I had something to add.

I may be wrong, but I thought it was the Small Block points that interchanged with Harley? I remember my dad always talking about carrying a set of Chevy V8 points ('cause they were half the price at the time) and a matchbook with him on his old Pan...

    1) 1958 Chevy tail light lenses are the same as 1961 - 1967 Corvette
    2) 1958 Impala inside dome light assemblies are the same as a 1973 Corvette rear package tray light assembly and may match other Corvettes.

  24. Instead of the dowels, I use regular old 1/4 inch nuts. Just takes 2 stacked, times 3 places for 6 total required. Makes a pretty tight fit, but they will never fail like the stock nylon pins. Can't beat the price for 6 nuts, and everyone has some 1/4 inch nuts lying around their garage.

I am sure I can think of more to add later for parts swapping.

SBC/BBC water necks fit A, B, & RB Mopars. (Mind the thermostat though- they are different diameters)

The Ford Escort radiator (a transverse flow) fits the '30-'31 Ford Rad Shell
when stood up, and with the "top" tank recurved slightly. ~ $130. new replacement.
You'll want a large soldering iron and nylon welding technique down. ("V' groove the mods, pre-heat w/hot air gun and weld ~ 1" lengths)

subscribed... I have heard on chevrolet from the inline 250 six, to all small block V-8's (283,350,327) and big block motors all share the same transmission bell housing pattern

  30. Yes, that is true. But not for the earlier 216 and 235 inline 6's, they are different pattern; which is same as the GMC inline 6 though.

Also, SBC and BBC have the same relationship between the bellhousing and the motor mounts. So if you have a SBC, and room available, you can set a BBC in using the same mounts. Some factory BBC mounts were different heights or side offsets, but the bellhousing to motor mounts is the same SBC to BBC.
