Does anyone have a good company that they have used for this? TCI has a bolt in one, but is there a company that has a more complete one? Or anything comparable? Thanks in advance.
are you talking transmission cross member?? it's an easy make out of some tubing and flat stock, and it's now a bolt in.... here's a picture of mine
I dont know of anyone that makes a K member. If you are just going to open drive and need to mount a th350 or T5, then you can make a X-member for about $20-$40. Like the pic above, just cut out the center of the stock X-member and bolt in some sturdy square tubing that doesnt curve up.
I used the one from Hotrod Works. How it would work with an automatic trans, I'm not sure...but would think you might be able to make a new drop out piece for it. Plus it bolts to the rivet holes of the stock crossmember. Plus it looks pretty. http://hotrodworks.com/catalog/index.php?route=product/product&path=44&product_id=114
You can use the original K-member no problem. Just make a nice, heavy plate to bolt to the top of the K-member that extends back far enough to bolt onto your trans mount. I have a 350/Turbo 350 in my '53 with the original K-member, no problems. Just use heavy enough steel so it doesn't flex all over the place. Chassis Engineering sells them, but I just made mine: http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/page30.html
