Projects My 31 pontiac coupe

Here are some pics of the 31 Pontiac 5 window I have just started on. It will be getting a OHC-6 with a cliffors 3 webber side draft setup and a vintage long tube header backed up by a M-20 4 speed. The chassis will be going to Progressive Automotive this spring and will be getting a triangulated 4 link with a 9" in the back and a superbell i beam in the front. I havent decided if I am going to chop the top or not but the fenders are gone.

 

Nice looking project! I am sure a lot of people are gonna say leave the fenders on...I would keep them myself. I do like the engine and tranny choice.

 

Nice looking '31 coupe, rare bird. I would personally keep the fenders on but its your ride dude, build it up. Keep us posted with pics and story.

Solid looking body with nice style, be proud to say its a Pontiac. Did they use alot of wood in the body like the chevy of the same year?

Another vote for fenders, almost a waste since they seem to be pretty nice and complete.

Very nice. good luck with it and tread lightly when you take it apart , hopefully the wood will be better than the cars I started with.

Fenderless, Super Bell (I assume a Ford style transverse front spring), etc.
Sounds to me like it's on the road to lookin' like a "high boy coupe"- you know just like every body else has.

OR fairly stock body, Pontiac engine, dropped Pontiac axle, full fenders, and Pontiac STYLE.

Dare to be different-different can be good.

 

Excellent choice on the engine & trans. Yeah, I'd keep the fenders, too. Especially, since they look to be in pretty good condition. However, it's your car, so it's your choice.

Just don't put a 32 Ford grill shell on it. After all, it's a Pontiac.

milltown 5 is relocated .. 24 hamilton road sturbridge ma.... hamilton rod and gun club.... only 20 min from the old spot.....

 

Here's another one for keeping the fenders and keeping it Pontiac.
its amazing how similar yet different that Pontiac is to other makes of that year.

 

Nice coupe! You ought to be able to get a nice "chunk of change" for the fenders, if you aren't going to use them. Or just keep them in case you want a "change" sometime down the road! Hey! What do you want for that cool radiator cap?

 

Good looking car. I would've loved to have found an OHC 6 for mine.... Still looking though. FWIW, I like the fenders on it. I ran mine (28 sedan - the roof) as a high boy for a while, it looked odd where the cowl meets the frame without the splash aprons. I think if it was channeled mine would've looked better fenderless, but I didn't want to lose interior room. It may have only looked odd because the frame was wider at the cowl and narrow the length of the body, whereas the Fords (as you see most of the time), the body and frame flow together. Neat project, good luck!

I wouldn't chop the top either. I would leave the body as is like your first set of pics.

 

fenders are a must for something that rare! and no chop! its got a nice stance as is! a sprint 6 would look awesome in it!

My summer DD is a 31 Pontiac 401 Sport sedan.

I want to gather the parts to clone my own car in appearance but have it as a hot rod.



But IMHO I think it looks way better with fenders.

 

Well I have finally been making some progress after a busy spring. I have gotted the frame stripped down and body cleaned out, engine mocked up in the frame. I should be sending this to the frame shop soon. Here are some pics from today
