Hope someone can help. I replaced my 1950 Ford manual steering with a saginaw 605 power steering. Issue is that when I turn the steering wheel left the tires go right. Is this a pitman arm issue. Help!!!
Yes it is. Turn the pitman arm 180 degrees. Oops, the linkage won't reach now? You chose the wrong orientation steering box.
Come on guys- Is there a part of the linkage that is missing. I did not take apart the system. I`ve been told that there is a gear box that turns the opposite direction but the saginaw 605 does not!
I'd suggest you get someone with some experience to do it for you. I don't think you are qualified to do suspension/steering work. That's not meant to be an insult just a statement of fact. You obviously have not thought it through and this is an area that takes a lot of thought.
Look for a 525 or 122 manual box, they are rear steer, or look for a 60's Mid-size GM with PS, not a 70's Camaro.
Try a power steering from a 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a bunch of guys are using them on '49-'51 Mercs and '55-'56 Fords. Take a look at the 1952-56 Fords Social group here on the HAMB, a bunch of guys in the group currently have the Jeep box installed and working and a bunch more including myself are working on this setup. The Jeep box is far better than the 605.
