Cool thread. One of my personal favorite mild customs is Malcolm's old Galaxie I spotted at Bonneville.

  11. You're Welcome........:) Here are some more common cars that have slight variations on the theme but despite some minor wheel departures, still in my mind qualify because of the very limited work done apart from minor dechroming, Paintwork, Lowering, Skirts, Louvers, Portholes, Dummy or real Spots, etc....and Tire/Wheel treatments. Though at one time there was a defined Standard for the Classes cars were entered and judged in, my own view of a Mild car is one that has minimal bodywork done, still retains much of the Factory trim, and is refined by the addition of Custom paint, adding or removing accessories, and maintaining the major components of the Stock car itself. This is NOT a place to argue over minor expressions or differences, but a nice place to enjoy the "spirit" of slightly modifying our cars to make them stand out from their Stock counterparts....both little efforts, and slightly "more" efforts are all fair game. Lets enjoy, rather than debate until somebody comes up with the actual Criteria that cars were judged by in the Associations that held and established the Standards for each competing Class.

Post 252 by C9 pretty much sums it up. A well done mild custom is a car that has had modifications that enhance and possibly clean up the factory lines of the car. Also swapping out headlights and taillights (Packard taillights forcexample)still leaves the car in mild custom territory. Also a well done mild custom is deceptively simple in that it is the overall combination of a few subtle modifications, stance, paint and interior that give the car it's impact and be just as much of a head turner as a more radical car. This can be more difficult to accomplish than a radical car simply because a radical customs chop or section can distract from other parts of the car that may not be as well thought out or executed. The whole vibe or feeling that a mild custom gives off can be completely changed by changing something as simple as a steering wheel. Trust me I swapped out my silver metal flake wheel for a stock one and it just made it seem too girly or nice or somethin, gave off a limp wristed girly vibe, so the metal flake wheel went back on as well as a column mount Sun tach. I like my cars to give off a sinister vibe, like some greasey hood is gonna slide out from behind the wheel and shank ya with a switch blade.

If memory serves correctly, they were a random auction find a few summers back. I don't know if Lee (previous owner) ever found out where they came from?

    New grille looks great man!

Good Gawd I love this thread. And so inspiring, I find myself eyeing my '63 Newport with ill intent. I'd already planned on a mild taillight mod but now want to go further; nosed, decked and shaved. Plenty of real estate on the old gal to have plenty of fun with.

Thanks guys for sharing your rides. Really.

@ The_Dude. Early 60s GM products are just a natural for the mild treatment. Cool rides. Love the Caddy.

As it sits lowered 4 all around ( needs some more out back) Full interior, flaked wheel and dash and some www. Needs some seams filled and smoothed, some things shaved, different tailights, some work on the skirts and some SHINY paint and chrome and Im done!
