    Hi,
    I wrote yesterday, in March's thead, asking about linkage parts for an updraft. I was able to rig a working linkage from a motorcycle muffler hanger I had laying around hooked up to the stock linkage at the firewall. My question is, is this the best way to set this up, or is there a better way? Thanks.

    Thanks, Bodger. I could if I had a resource for old style carb linkage. Speedway and the Hot Rod Shop have standard lengths of linkage and a few options to fulcrum and change direction so the push of the stock linkage becomes a pull on the carb.
    I would need some kind of an arm on the other side of the carb. I would also need that nifty looking copper thing you got by the firewall.
    The guys at the local NAPA store just laugh when I bring in old carb parts. Most of the young guys don't even know what a carb is, I don't think.
    You do have a nice set up.;)

    Sorry for the double post.
    Thanks Crazydaddyo for the pictures. They do give me some ideas. I sure wish I could find some of those spring ends that fit over the knobs and be able to make my own lenghts. It looks like one of those ends has an inside thread.
    I really like the long rod for the choke in that one picture.

  9. Most manifolds have a boss cast into them for a pivot stud for the lever that comes with the manifolds. Have you checked with C Yapp? The arm or lever should have a 2 to 1 or better ratio as the stock "A" accelerator has quite a bit of travel. In the photo's the lever I'm using is the short end of a broken lever and I had to fabricate a boss with a 1/4' stud as a pivot or fulcrum If you look at the long end you can see where it is broken. I have made levers out of 1/4" Al plate, cutting to shape on a band saw and drilling the holes to fit. The photo of the old manifold shows where most aftermarket manifolds have the boss. Sac Vintage Ford has them for $35.00.

  10. I had a furlough day
    (gotta LOVE how Georgia takes care of it's teachers :rolleyes::D), and went down to the Perry swap and found this-

    Is it a C crank??? The casting has what looks like a T on top of a W, then 33-2.

    I'm hoping/praying that it stands for Feb of 1933 :)

    Here are the pics:

    It looks A or Early B to me. This is not a counter weighted crank.

    The difference between A and B is the bearing journal size.
    A :
    Main = 1.625"
    Rod = 1.5"

    B:
    Main = 2"
    rods = 1.875

    .

  13. I'm told, by the cognoscenti, That the "C" crank, by definition, is a counter weighted crank. :) The later Model B engines, I guess all from 1933 on, (some in latter 1932) had a "C" on their crank. Thus, I surmise the myth of the Model C engine got started.;)

    You guys might have seen this site before, there's a ton of info on rebuilding and modifying A and B oil pumps. http://www.billsbangers.com/ I just found it last night.

  15. Old timers called the engines "C"'s. The parts men working in the local ford Garages in the late 40's and early 50's also referred to them as "C"'s. They were ,at least in Southern California, Regularly called "C"'s Then in the 90's some definitive research was done in the ford archives and no record of a "C" engine was found for that time frame. So people that were not on the scene in the 40's and 50's decided to correct those that were. These are the same people that couldn't distinguish the difference between a carburetor design and an engine designation so now instead of building and driving "4 Barrels" we are building and driving 4 banger's a derogatory term not very popular back in the day with the 4 barrel guy's

  16. I wish I had known it was you in the kickass RPU last weekend at Pancakes. I took some pretty bad ass shots of your ride. Would have been nice to talk to you in person. I still need that radiator..... btw lol.-Weeks

  17. I guess me and my buddy were some of those in the Fifties that got it wrong. He bought, in '54 or '55, a '33 three-window coupe. Nobody wanted '33 Fords in those days, particularly with a four-banger in it. We took the banger apart. His father, in the thirties, had run a CRAGAR topped B at the dry lakes. His dad's engine was made in '32. We thought we topped him, when we showed him the "C" on the crank; and proudly assumed WE had a "C" engine. He told us there was no "C" engine. We argued; and he bet us a buck (the car only cost $25, so that was a big bet). We went to Harlan Loud Ford in Pasadena; and the old mechanic there broke the news that we were wrong. No "C" engine (he musta got it wrong too). Trying to avoid losing the bet, we went to Don Blair's Speed Shop. The guys' at Blair's just laughed at us; and told us to "pay up".

    I told that story to the "late/great" Jay Steel. He laughed. But, he was just about ten years younger than me. Maybe he was one of those "revisionists".

    I think the argument of whether, or not, there was an existence of a Ford Model C engine will last until the last Model B block rusts into oblivion. And that, my friend, is going to be a very long time:)

    P.S. The guy's a Blairs' ran me out, about a year later, when having purchased a '34 five window, I went in asking about hopping up a 21 stud V-8. I guess they got that wrong too; as today, the 21 stud has a big following amongst "The Oldtimers".:D

    Got the car put back together with the new waterpump and dropped a 160degree thermostat into it as well. took it on a good 35 mile drive today to my buddies surf shop and back and it did spew out some water when i parked the first time. but i think i may have overfilled the radiator a bit and was just spittin what needed to be out. didnt over flow when i came back and parked it. It seems to run alot better with the thermostat in it. I need to figure out my wiring issue so my gauge work next.

    Its amazing what these iphones can do now days. Heres a quick lil walk around video i shot of it when i got back today.

    <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6Z_f_6D_NkM?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6Z_f_6D_NkM?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

  20. For those of you that speculate that the engine is together properly; and wonder if my car is running right. Note the lead in the exhaust, when I jab it. That's 110 octane racing gas.:eek: The "banjo-assed", old bald guy is me.:rolleyes:
    I did have to put some other plugs in it to allieviate the "run on".

    The video was shot by "socalculture" and placed on his Flicker site. The label should read: "Miller-Schofield/Ford"

    I think hambers should be required to wear name badges at car shows with their hamb name. Every time I saw someone who might be a hamb member I was on the wrong side of the "Nile" to talk to them! I stil have the B radiator but I think I'm going to use it now. TK

    Just reporting in. I got the old head off and getting ready for a Lion Speed Head. Pistons and cylinders look good. Bored 30 over. Maybe I got a good deal with this motor.

    Oh yeah, and I painted the engine Ford tractor red. Over at the Ford Barn they say red engines make more horsepower.:D

    I'm thinking about jetting single Stromberg 97 whit 4 Banger, what combination of jets and powervalve have you used?

    My engine has .080 bore, insert bearings, 1.7" intake valves, Snyder's 6:1 head, re-grounded mild camshaft, Red's header and Burns intake for one 97.

    Engine is still in machine shop, but i want to order some jets and powervalves ready for testing. I don´t have any idea where to start, little bit smaller than default jets?
    .43 mains and 69 powervalve?

    I tried search but only find a dual Stromberg setup.

    Hello All!

    I finally have a good excuse to jump in on the fun this month...mostly I end up lurking :rolleyes:

    Anywho, I have a question on T motors, carbs and intakes. I am in the process of building a new Model T engine for my '26 Roadster. I plan to bore it out at least .060 over and will be running a 3/4 race cam. I am also planning to run this Burns 2x2 intake and either 2 "97s" or 2 "48's"......which carbs should I use?

    If I jet the "48s" down, would the CFM still be too much? Would the "97's" be a little better? (Stromberg 48's pictured)

    [IMG]

    Thanks for any advice or help! :D

    isnt that burns intake for an A?

    The T engine is smaller then the A. I would say that the 48's would be way too much. Even with the bore and hot cam.

    You don't say what head your going to run, or the Compression ratio. If it is under 6:1, I think two 97's will be too much too.

    Are you going to run the stock crank?
    Remove the Mag windings from the flywheel?
    If you are going flat head, what size valves?
