Ben Arnold former GN racer and verteren of many short tracks passed away this week. He always liked to say he still holds the qualifying racord at 178 ''or somthing close I think'' while going backwards. He was 74.. Thank MS for giving another go.. Bobby..

I met Ben at the Old Drag Racers Reunion in Panama City, FL a couple of years ago and found him to be a real like-able fellow. He was having to be on oxygen then. I have a couple of photo cards he autographed for me that are in my collection. You can go back to post # 694 around page 24 or so and see the photo cards.

Been there and done that. I have had more dirt in my shoes than you could believe. I used to work on dirt cars in white levies, a white painters shirt with the usual racing patches and white sneakers. It's a wonder my mom didn't run me off. I still have my old shirt, I need to take a photo and post it.

I don't have much left in my repetoire of pictures that meets the newly agreed upon date cutoff but this picture does, even though it's not mine. A picture of "Wild Bill" Foster's killer #9 '64 Plymouth in action at Saugus Speedway, Calif.

Here's a scene from the weekly show at Dayton Speedway in 1966. A couple of 57 Chevies and a 56 Ford. Lots of interesting cars in the background, too. Enjoy.

Back in the seventies, eighties and early ninties I was the track photographer at some race tracks and also shot for three papers and a mag. or two. I happened to pick up a copy of NSSN and noticed a photo and by line with my name on it. I guess one of the other papers had loaned them the photo. I didn't subscribe to NSSN so I don't know if I had any more photos featured or not. At least I can always say that I had photographed for NSSN, something that I am proud to have been associated with.

Yes that is Asheville as I stated after this pictures was posted. It was at once owned by Raymond Parks...I'm glad you found Racers Reunion....it is a great site. I am a member and am a co-host on their radio show...in fact, that's what I'm doing right now!:D

Post these babies up! As long as the body was something available before the late 60s or early 70s we should be good. Gene

Very cool and very rare picture, thanks for posting it. I have lived my whole life in Middletown and have heard about the track. Do you know where the track was located or anything else about it?
    Thanks again.

Middletown Speedway ran from 1950 to 1955. It was located on South Main, there is a ready mix company & lake (probably gravel pit) on the land now.
