I was just looking to see if anyone out their had pictures of 49-51 mercurys sitting in junkyards or barns or wherever. Also if you had pictures of you finding a 49-51 merc and bringing it back to life or in the process.

  2. This one was in a local yard which the old hoarder wouldn't sell anything. Next you know, it was gone. Whoever got it had to drag it thru the next door neighbors yard to get it out. Sold or stolen?

That's a shame people won't let you rescue a car like that.

V K, you just had to post that last pic, didn't ya. Man, I'm bummed.

There's one half buried in the ground in the woods behind my father's old homestead. If I could get in there to take a pic, I would. (there's also an IH panel truck )

That does hurt to see, but it's nice to know they're still out their waiting to be found.

The green one I bought but had to sell it to pay income taxes a few years ago. Still bothers me, but I'm fairly sure the new owner is doing it justice.

The smashed one I sent to Sweden, cut into pieces and loaded in a container. There it was combined with a nice solid 4 door sedan to make a coupe and then chopped. They did a great job, I got progress pics sent to me which was nice. I think that builder is a HAMB member.

The guy's HAMB name is Janza and he has a nice album of build pics of the Merc if you look at his profile, I'm not sure how to repost those pictures but the car looks fantastic and made use of what was good on the smashed car. There were a few parts left over that I didn't send along and I sold or used them, nothing good went to waste.

  24. We sold a rough '51 to a Hamb'er a few years ago who cut it up on the spot and took enough to do a 2dr to 4dr conversion, then got in another one and ended up trading it for a running older rollback. Was amazed at how little interest that car had, for a relatively complete one with a clear NYS reg.

As such while I know where there's a complete '51 sitting, I haven't bothered to try to rescue it, I don't see the sense in all the work to convince the people to sell it and drag it out only to sit on it for years and years.

RusyNY, I hear you, man. people talk and talk about wanting a Merc, and then you -- what? -- have to do an ad campaign to find somebody with money and a trailer? One of those things in life that make no sense.

Sailing Adventure, cool pic. Was this in that BIG yard that got crushed out?

If you dont want to sit on them for long you might need to rethink your pricing, you dont live in the southwest where they can bring decent money but on the east coast where they completely rust away.

Not in a junkyard, but in junky yard.
