Got my interior in the Gasser ! Sewn by me !

Well, finally got my interior done and installed back in the Chevy. I did it all myself. Me and a couple guys pitched our money together and bought a machine and i went to work !
I wanted to just replace the inserts on the seats considering they were wasted and the rest of the seat(s) were ok. Also i have never done this before so i didnt want to make it impossible for me to get done.
So, i carefully cut out the inserts of the seats, made patterns, sewed the pleats and then sewed them into the seats. I now know why interior shops charge soooo much to do interiors !! Wow what a job!!
I might have a total of $200-$225 in the job total.
Its not perfect but i look at it and know that i did it myself and thats all that matters. Heres some pics. The flash of the camera really makes it look yellow. Its actually gold metal flake.

So you sewed all the diamond pleats into the material too, or did it come that way? Because that would be a ton of work, although it turned out great. How hard was it to attach your new inserts to the old vinyl on the sides? I've wondered how hard it is to add new inserts and reuse the outers. Thanks for sharing.

 

I bought my wife a industrial sewing machine and I hope she can pull off some cool stuff like you did ....nice job

 

Stitchin aint easy as we said in Upholstery class....Nice work. I remember saying I'll never put Diamonds in a car after having to make a few panels worth...Ive been slowly changing my mind on that statement

Thanks! I used the old original cardboard. Soaked them in the tub and then dried them flat.

Yeah i sewed them all myself and yes it was a ton of work. I had never even used a sewing machine before i did these. Sewing the corners was probably the hardest part. Alot of layers and thickest point.

We bought a Singer Slant-o-matic 401. Not exactly the right machine for the job but it worked. Its all gear driven and had a walking foot attatchment. If i had a machine to do upholstery it would have been better. The biggest issue was the throat. Its basically a heavy duty home machine so its not very deep.

 

that is friggin amazing!! makes my home job look tame. its still a work in progress.
