I ran into a friend's father at a car show one time. We ended up walkin around the show for a bit. He would point out the cars that he once owned and would say "I had one of these. Mine wasn't like this one though, this car is a piece of sh*t" I heard him say that about more than a few cars. He is one of those guys who thinks everyone else's car is junk, untill its his, then its GOLD

Another thing i get alot is people who look at your window registration to see what year the car is(not knowing your watching them) then walk up to you and say "19xx, right?" Acting like they know exactly what they are talking about. It doesn't bother my, i just get a laugh out of it.

Or how about when you're away from your car, you come back and a pin-up is sitting on your hood or fender. She was put there by the so-called photographer.

I hate it when you ask a guy a question about his car and his
answer is "I don't know but i can give you the number to the guy
    who built it."

What's wrong with that? Sounds honest and respectful to the builder(s) to me. A hell of lot better than bullshitting like you did it all yourself when you didn't. A lot of guys on here make a living working on cars for other people. I guess that isn't respectable.

  5. the group of guys who stand directly in the middle of the aisle so no one can get past then look at you like youre the rude one when you politely ask them to move (i generally take my 2 year old son to car shows in the stroller and by the end of the day i feel like killing those people:mad:)

No, I guess I miss quoted myself. After I read what you (stude) wrote, I agree with you. I like that kind of response. I was talking about the clueless jackass type of
guy that is going on and on and does not have a clue about his car or his compoents.

How about the goofy stuffed kid in "Time out" against the bumper, or the fake dog pissing on a tire. Show the car, not stuffed kids or animals, and for that matter I don't need to see every trophy you ever won either.

Just yesterday...guy with big metal snaps on his shirt sleeves was pointing out things on my motor to his friends, kept hearing ting ting ting, his snaps were ringing my car like a bell. next a guy in a falcon squeezed his car between mine and a friends only to realize he couldn't even get his doors opened enough to let his fat ass out & of course his exhaust was turned down & blowing shit all over the place the whole time. My favorite was a 5 yr old kid with a mohawk (parents are obviously teaching respect) decided to run and jump in the middle of a puddle left from the rain the night before, he splashed muddy water all over the side of my car then laughed & ran off...WTF is wrong with people?

How about the people that drop their garbage next to your car? I've said "hey, you dropped something" and walked over and picked the garbage up and handed it back like I was doing them a favor.

I don't mind the flyer in the cars thing. I try to stay up on what's going on, but you can't know eveything. It's usually someone with a brain putting them in the window and not drooling on your seats. Dogs and bikes, they gotta go. The show promoter or hosting club really needs to enforce this one. I once saw a kid on a bike get his pant leg jammed in the front sprocket, lost control of the bike, and smash into the side of a over restored 57 chevy! The paint on the front fender alone must have costs more than my entire car. The parents just said "sorry, C'mon Timmy." I usually stay away from the "high school parking lot" shows. My club supports other clubs, and the entire vibe is just more laid back. If ya can't have a few beers, listen to a great band, and see some half naked chicks walking around, it's not for me. My club throws 2 shows/parties each summer. Our flyer is real clear that you might wanna leave the kids at home. Beer, Bands, Burlesque is right there in BIG LETTERS. I always have to laugh when some uptight granny panty wearin' loud mouth wants to say it's wrong. If you don't like it, then head down to the YMCA and jump in on the bingo game. The know it all's, they are everywhere and there's no way to tell who they are at the gate. Too bad really. Nothing worse than a guy telling the owner/builder how 'he" would have done it, or even worse..."you should do this.." This past summer I watched a guy walk around my buddies very radical and completly hand built pick em up for about 10 minn saying "you should do this". Finally I had enough and when asked "where's you car??" He said he didn't have one. Well then dude, "you should get the F outta here", but I said it quiet so not to let the young ones here me ;). My #1 Gripe with car shows...LOUSEY FOOD!!! C'MON people. $10 to enter and you can't even make a decent burger? How can you screw up a hot dog!!! French fries that have been sitting in a heating tray for an hour. If as a club or organization you can't do the food right, just bring in an outside catering company. They'll give ya a cut of the profits and the food won't suck. And I'll stick around longer. I can't tell ya how many times me and the boys split because we're all hungry.

I hate the excessive bad language with kids around, the flavor of the month crowd that go over board with the "scene" crap. I am generations deep in this lifestyle but don't have black socks or a single pair of dickies shorts. Funny thing is most of the time I have more fun talking to a random old guy that sees me at the store with my car then the opinionated people at car shows, oh yeah one of the biggest is people touching my seats when the windows are down.

I do not know what it is with the guys slamming the dogs at a car show. I usually carry mine to an all day show. She minds better than most of the kids at the shows.
I do clean up after her if she does her business, but it is in a spot way away from the show.
I would rather deal with a dog, than most of the kids that I have seen at the shows.

Not necessarrily in this order, but it bugs when a show charges for the cars but then offers free admission for a spectator, that's like asking a band to pay the venue so the audience can watch for free. When people ask how much something costs and you politely try to side step the question and they insist then you thow out a ball park number and they say thats too much and they wouldnt pay it. These troops of amateur pin ups going from car to car posing all over them. Trying to find parking on a crowded druise night and when you finally see someone pulling out, you stop, signal and wait when some one throws a lawn chair in the spot and says they're holding it so their husband can get the 09 truck so they can have a better spot to watch "you guys cruise". How about the builders that bring their potential customers over to show them what they wouldnt do and use your car as the example when theres nothing wrong with the way something was done.

Or the Rock-a-billy bands. We were at WOW yesterday and this band starts playing. I have a hearing impairment to begin with but there sound was WAAAYYYY off !!! Don't get me wrong, I like music ... when I can hear it. I ended up saying to the fellow H.A.M.B.er I was with whom is 26 years my junior, "Is that music really as bad as it sounds ?" He replied, "NO ... it's worse !" Also the BMX stunt team with the blaring soundtrack that had crowd cheers and applause mixed in, the funny thing is that they were next the the Hell's Angels both and those guys didn't seem to like it too much !

The other thing I hate at shows I have recently been to, lack of my ride in the show !!! :p

Common Courtesy: Keep your belt buckle off my fender, tuck your wallet chain in your pocket (especially you zuit suiters), and leave those giant key rings back at the storage facility you manage; we're not impressed.

And I never understood the animal thing. IT AIN'T A PET SHOW! And it's not just dogs. I've seen people walking around with everything from ferrets to parrots and snakes.

I had a girl drop a plastic McDonald's straw on my hot chrome exhaust pipe once. It melted and turned black instantly. I never did get it all off.

I had a shop neighbors dog who had just enough chain to piss on my wheel everyday. It corroded the chrome wheel pretty good.

I love seeing kids at car/ truck/ MC/ events, because it's those early first impressions that shaped me and will shape the next generation. But PLEASE MOMS; don't walk those strollers between the cars and don't arm the kids with plastic swords, bats, cotton candy, things that they can throw, or other implements of destruction. AND WHY DON'T THOSE KIDS IN THE STROLLERS HAVE EAR PROTECTION? ARE YOU TRYING TO RAISE DEAF KIDS?

Do you really need Wiley Coyote, Yosemite Sam, Tweety Bird, and the Tazmanian Devil as a theme to your car? Just because those cartoon character floor mats and mud flaps are in the JC Whitney catalog doesn't make it a good idea...

Back to the original question about etiquette, just a bit of respect for the effort the car owner has put into their machine would be nice. I may not be a fan of the Chebbie 350 but I'll try to find something unique I like about a car and tell the owner "Hey, I really like what you've done with the xxxx, and thanks for bringing your car out today".

Usually, if you see a stuffed animal in the driver's seat, it's covering up a rip in the seat!

Saw a guy walk over to his "time out" doll leaning on his bumper... gave it a kick and said "get off my car kid!!"

My pet peeve is people who set out a bunch of chairs to save spaces for their buddies who "are coming later". If I make the effort to get to the show early enough to get a decent spot I shouldn't have to park someplace else because spots are "being saved". I went to a show with my daughter, knew it was going to be a crowded show so we got there early. Saw a big open spot in a prime area. There was a lawn chair on each end and about three spaces between the two spaces being saved by the lawn chairs. So I pulled in between the chairs. Guy informs me that he was saving spots for his buddies who will be there soon. I told him I didn't realize he was saving all those spaces, but I didn't believe in saving spaces so I was there to stay. I had to laugh when a couple guys (not his friends) came in a little later moved one of the lawn chairs and pulled into one of his spots.

I think you must have met my dad at one time or the other. I walked off and left him bending some guys ear at a car show more than once when he started off on one of those stories.

I think most things have been covered in the past few pages.

I learned at the first rod run I ever went to that rodders as a norm leave any area they are in cleaner then they found it. It gripes my butt when I see spectators throw stuff on the ground when there is a trash can ten feet away.

In the past I have seen some 400lb woman sitting on a guys fender and refusing to get off it when asked because she had "paid" her X$ spectator fee and could do what she wanted to She was still raising hell when the deputy escorted her out the gate.

Idiots letting their kids use freshly painted fenders as a slide and raising them up and setting them on the fender so they could slide on it.

car families who set up camp around their cars with blankets on the ground, coolers, lawn chairs, toys and other crap to where you can't get around the cars. PNW rodders will know which ones I am talking about there.

Probably mentioned but fellow rodders who feel they have to fire up the old hot rod with it's open headers and gun the engine for five minutes every hour on the hour if there aren't enough mouthbreathers standing around it.

Never could figure why guys carry old trophies to the car shows to display but it might be signs of mental problems. Not irritating but really pathetic as in See all my trophies, I should win one this time too.
Along with that, show boards at outdoor rod trots or cruise nights. What idiot started the concept that it was cool to bring out your show board and set it out in front of the car at rod runs? I have seen the damned things blow over into other cars, get knocked down and otherwise get in the way. Great and necessary for indoor shows but they just look like you are trying too hard when you set them up at outdoor events.
