Vintage shots from days gone by!

Chicago sure was blessed with fantastic and ornate Architecture, makes me wonde how much of it survived.
When I found the pic of the brickwork being done I first thought it was the construction of a beautiful new building.
Sadly the caption read "dismantling old city hall 1908".



As for Virginia City, me and the wifey missed it when we toured the western states in 1984. We did the Lake Tahoe loop then exited down the mountain pretty well on the road to Virginia City but got diverted with a trip thru Reno and then onto to San Francisco and the coastal highway. Some day........'

Jim, I have always had a fascination with old gas stations probably die to growing up in around Dad's 'Triangle Royalite Service' in the 60's. The old Coke machine and the smell of 40 years of oil on the garage floor....

Still have a fascination with all things Coke, hence the coke pics last night. To this day I have a pretty decent collection of early coke signs and at one time I had better than 1/2 dozen coke machines. Am down to 2 (take up too much real estate) but will always adopt another one if presented with the chance.

As for the street scenes, It make me want to just step into some of those pictures and live just one more night under the old white street lights (and neon signs).
For those that didn't grow up under the early white street lights, the night time was just like living in a black and white photograph....

This picture was taken about 2 miles from me at the Milton Hershey school in Hershey,Pa.

 

The S.S. Eastland was built about a mile from where I live now...I believe that capsizing is still the largest loss of life in an American ship sinking.

23655 if you can find one and restore it or rod it I'm not sure you'd have much of a market when you decided to sell it. Most were highly abused with the opening and closing of all those thoughs. Many were used at airports for limo serice, as they called it, to shuttle people around. I saw many as a youn man used. I even doubt the integrity of the whole car. I know limos and the effect on them after only 3 years of moderate use. Most of the A/P limos I saw were Pontiacs and Checkers.
The first time I saw one was while I was at my Uncle's in Brooklyn, NY. I was like, WOW, did you see that Uncle Charlie? He of course mumbled, dumb country kid.
They were all over.

 

couldn't help notice the contrast here...childs toy from back then and childs toy from today(the computer keypad) my kids are often as not chased away from this 'new' toy to go play outside with the 'old' toys...
