These places were around in the 60's...I think they may have been some early franchises. The one in our town went by the name of "Jumpin' Jimeny," if my memory serves me right. They were a ball & you're right about the lawyer thing.

This would likely be late 1940's or later. The locomotive is an ALCO RS- series, though I'm not sure exactly which model. First RS rolled in 1945;this one looks like like an RS-2 or RS-3. Livery is New York Central, though they had lines all the way to the Mississippi River.[/QUOTE]

According to my copy of Diesel Locomotive Rosters, 8350 was an RS-3 built in 1953.

The music was part of the car story. I heard many of the tunes on the radio in my car driving around town, down to my grandparents in Enid, then driving to Tulsa from Wichita to college.

I'm a school librarian. Earlier this winter, I was reading that original Curious George book and some of the kindergarten class noticed he was smoking a pipe and commented on it. Don't forget that Santa Claus had a "pipe held tight in his teeth and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath." Times have changed and this is one of the changes that is for the good. My wife lost both her mother and her only sibling to lung cancer. I'm glad she never took up the habit.

Photo shows John Cobb, holder of the Land Speed Record, at speed in his Napier Railton at the Brooklands track in the UK.
Built in 1933, this 24 litre aero engined car held the absolute lap record at 143.33mph and in 1935 covered a kilometre at 151.97 mph - the highest speed every timed at Brooklands.
In later life the car was used to test aircraft tail chutes.
    The car still exists.

  7. Here's an interesting pic, from Belgium. Wonder what Chevrolet pieces are in the crates?

    Danger!
    Excitement!
    Adventure!
    Boston Blackie!

    Enemy of those who make him and enemy :mad:;
friend of those who have no friends.

When anti-hero "Boston Blackie" made the jump to TV in 1951, B-stock player Kent Taylor got one of his meatier roles, lasting 58 episodes through 1953, before going into re-broadcast all through the '50s.

Now my QUESTION: What is Blackie's sports car??? Pix blurry, so I can't be sure. Muntz? Cunningham? A custom done just for the series? I also wonder if this car still exists!

I hope my kids never see these pictures of me. I don't want them to get any crazy ideas.

Uh, no. This is Eddie Sachs as stated, not Art Linkletter. This was a LIFE photo.

The picture is Brooklands in the early 30's could be a world record attempt, I believe the car is a Sunbeam driver could be George Easton. I will try to find out more

Brooklands was a banked track built in the early 1900's near Weybridge, Surrey U.K. In 1939 it was taken over by the government for the war effort for aviation development. It is a museum now, with cars motor cycles and aircraft, Concord is there. Parts of the track still exist, you can still see a 1930's advert "For speed and comfort drive a Ford V8"
