    awesome thread!
I have just started building a 27 dodge roadster with a 235. I bought an adaptor kit for a th350 and fitted it last week.
The engine was a good runner from a 58 chev I sold after doing a 350 conversion, I was thinking I'll probaly do a twin carbe set up and some custom 2 piece headers ( got a pair of megaphones for exhaust)

but I have a couple of questions...
would the 235 have solid lifters?
I seem to remember they were a little noisy....if thats not normal maybe a cam and new hydrolic lifters will be a good idea?
also, the breather on the right hand side near the dizzy is a bit knocked about (the one that points to the ground)...can it be removed?
is there a better looking set-up?

I don't have that engine to look at so I am going by my shakey memory. I think that breather fits into the engine block, and certainly it could be removed and sealed with a proper size freeze plug or something similar, but then you will need to vent the blow-by somehow. That could be accomplished at the valve cover, but will dirty up the top of your engine. Perhaps a PCV routed back into the intake manifold woud do the trick. Can't help you on the lifters. ~WX1

blwn270-1.JPG blwn270-3.JPG MVC-639F.JPG blwn270-3.JPG May not be too HAMB friendly, but here's my 261 Chevy out of an old school bus now under the hood of my 54 sedan. It gets a little help from a therapeutic lung in the form of a reworked GMC 8-53 diesel blower with a couple of Holleys on top. There are a few internal tid bits like forged pistons and GMC truck rods to help it stay alive. Backed up with a TH200-4R, it gets my 54 down the road very nicely.

Ours ain't together yet. we're building a Model A somthin' or other, w/ a flathead straight 6 STUDEBAKER w/ 3 speed & OD. We've got the engine runnin' on an engine stand. The nice thing about it is that the power plant was FREE & we didn't have to do any thing to it.

Hopefully not too off topic: Does anybody know the dimensions of the Datsun 280Z engine?

Small. A 292 Chevy won't fit under the hood of a Z without a lot of modification. I checked on my 240Z.

I had a 223 in my wagon and it gave me some good service for a year or so before I yanked it for a v8.

Similar to the dimensions of a RB26DETT minus the turbos.

What did you have in mind?

More to the point were you trying to cram a 280Z engine into something, or a different I6 into a 280Z?

A friend and I were discussing the possibility of swapping out a 170ci Ford Falcon engine in a round-body Falcon for the OHC 2.8L from the Datsun. The Falcon engine is quite compact, which typically limits your swap choices.

  21. got this cool and I mean real cool roadster with a 216 six and 4 speed. You really feel the wind in your face on this 6 popper. Notice the flowing lines of the 2x4 running board bale wired on. How about the bungy cords holding the radiator from the fan.

Buddy dropped a 235 in my cranbrook. If I had my druthers I'd take her out and put her in a truck. We'll see what happens after the summer I guess.

  25. ur very sharp son..........there is no master cylinder on this thing, the only way to stop it is with the emergency brake.
