Hot Rod & Custom theft is on the rise, especially during big car shows and events across the US.

For those of you planning to come into central Texas for the Round Up, be prepared. Before you head this way, write down everything you can about your vehicle, including all serial/vin/plate numbers. Take some fresh photos of your vehicle to keep in your posession.

Lock your doors, park in well lit/public places, activate all security devices, be suspicious, and be on the look-out.

Let's do our best to prevent any theft from happening to our own vehicles, as well as our friends and fellow rodders.

    See ya'll.:D

I think this has a lot of merit. Pair up and do 1 hour watches in your hotel parking lot.

The "prevention" will keep you from worrying, and not having your car jacked will make sure you have a fun time.

I keep seeing threads about hot rods & customs being stolen all over the country, I think this thread is a good reminder to folks before they get all tied up in the excitement of the Round Up.

Install a batt kill switch and a fuel shut off valve both hidden and you'll be fine.

Rrright... A Claymore and a tripline. Haha. You fellas are too manly.

Possibility to be a really useful thread here, but if it just turns into a posedown I'm going to close it.

a car does not need to be started to be stolen!

  15. Be really pro active and leave the windows down and the key in the ignition, that way there is not as much damage to your car when and if it is recovered. Also, if you do that the thieves will figure the car is not worth stealing.

My dad and his model A car club buddies, even in the 1970s, always took turns walking the lot. Definitely something to be considered.

Is there a HAMB friendly motel/hotel that will allow rodders that are staying there to hire security? I mean, if folks don't want to be bothered taking turns keeping watch I'm sure a flatfoot for hire to walk the lot for a few hundred bucks. Spread that out over two dozen rodders and it's only a few bucks.

We are gonna do the one hour watch there should be 8 to 10 in our group and 5 of them are X marines 2 law enforcment and the rest are just big old mean country boys . no trip wires no bobby traps no electicution devices no explosives. Just plenty of bail money for the one that beats the shit out of the thief !!

  19. There will be enough of "US" there, so this is very do-able.

How many hours need to be covered?
Is there a way we could create a sign up sheet by time slot?
Everybody checks in with ID so we know who is watching the cars.
Needs to be at least two at a time.

    Just a thought.

Great idea....especially the last sentence. I'll kick in on the bail money !!

  24. I had a group of friends with rally cars (no windows, ignition toggles, etc..) that were at a waypoint in a sketchy foreign hotel, as a group they decided to park their cars bumper to bumper in a chain with one of the support vehicles being first in line.
