So I snapped up this old Roadster, that the guy claims was built in the late 40's raced in the 50's and shown at the Oakland roadster show from 58 to 63. It was built by Big John Zanino of the Kingsmen, a Stockton hot rod club. I am looking for info on the car and old pics as I want to get it back to its show car state and bring it to next years Oakland Roadster show.

  2. Nice A roadster I like how the reveals have been modified. Harry Westergard didn't do the mods by any chance? It definitely has a Bay area look that was common in the late 40s early 50s

The basic car looks familiar from show coverage from that period but someone would have to dig out the old magazines.

Bitchin! Love the desoto grille. Those wheels look like a later addition, but the car is RAD.

Yeah the Bumpers are rad, I also got the floating fenders. You can tell it was a show car for sure as the rear pumpkin is painted same as body, and the bell housing on the trans is Polished aluminum.

What a fantastic score. It does look very familiar. Did someone say floating fenders? That sounds familiar too. Someone will know.

Man, it looks super familiar. I think I remeber it as the a car in the background of a main shot from one of the first years of the roadster show. I think the main car in the image is a track T maybe. I'll dig out the stuff tonight if I have time and see if my hunch is right...

PM Rikster, he'll know. Looks great!

  13. Van Gordon had a early 20s dodge roadster with a Desoto grille and was used in advertising the first NRS, seems the Desoto grille was bit of a Norcal deal. Did the seller say who did the body work. Smoothed reveals were somewhat of a trademark of Harry Westergard.

I saw that on Craigslist! I knew it would not last long. If I had not just bought my Bonneville roadster, it might be in my garage right now!!! Congrats!:D

What an amazing car, great to see it out and hopefully back in circulation. The Desoto grill is beautiful. Thanx for this cool historic info. ~sololobo~

Nope... The only car in that book with the Desoto nose is the "buzzbomb" '27 coupe. I did some quick checking, and the picture I thought it was in, it wasn't. Time to dig a bit deeper. It's always nice having eveything in print, but it gets to be a bit of a treasure hunt sometimes. I'll keep at it though.
