The American Sports Car Company- TASCO

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jive-Bomber, Feb 8, 2011.

  1. How's about the possibility of his "investors" requiring some of the design elements, and the result is what we see as a design by committee?

There's probably a back story that has been lost to time.

    Hey,

If I remember my history on the TASCO, Gordon Buehrig wound up pretty much covering the near total costs of development of the project out of his pocket! From outside design/construction ( body panels formed by coachbuilder Derham in Pa.) to mechanical help.

We're lookin at this thing from sixtytwo years gone, but ya have to consider when it first broke cover, most people hadn't been able to purchase a new vehicle in close to a decade, and had never heard the term ''sports car'' Too, the "Jet-Age" was jus getting started, and anything that looked like '' aeronautical '' was new and ''interesting '' I don't think the Jag, MG or early Alfa bunch was their target demo.

Interesting at best....kinda makes me think George Barris in a way...kinda pre-batmobile. I dont know whats more embarrassing building something like that (which looks like its missing machine guns) or completely botching the national anthem....not to say any names.......Christina Aguilera.

Servicemen came back from the UK well after VE day. I knew a C119 pilot who brought home an MG-TD in his plane. But aside from that, the guys who wanted an American sports car just built their own, as they had been doing since the late '20's.

What would have been interesting is someone building speedsters to order much the way shops do them now. Buehrig worked for a bodybuilder before WW2. Suppose he had become the first George Barris, Chip Foose or Boyd Coddington? Instead of this deal being a prototype for production, could he have had a business building one offs to order in the late '40s?

  10. Well, the drawings look good. It looks like a deranged WWII plane.

  11. I'd rather look at the porn. Less pornographic.
