I picked this up a couple of years ago. '29 Hupmobile. I'm trying to fit it into a '32 Chevy dash. I was going to cut round holes in the back to mount gauges but that would lose the character of the cutouts.

When the time comes, I plan on installing this into my Deuce Coupe. It's out of a 55 Oldsmobile. I'd be keen to see pictures of anyone that has done this already.

    Cool Thread.

    Wow! I love it!

  15. Putting a 49'ish Dodge truck cab on a 95 Dodge Dakota chassis, but don't have a ton of extra cash to buy a lot of new stuff. I have to make as much as possible from the Dakota fit the 49.

A friend of mine works for a local shop that has an awesome machine shop. He took my Dakota gauges and made Bakelite rings so that they'd fit like a glove inside of the 49's dash holes. The tach is going on the driver's side and the speedo is going on the passenger's side since it has that weird "center of the truck" instrument panel. The great thing is that the stock circuit board will be retained so that I can use the factory dash wiring harness from the Dakota. The new ribbon cable in the photo is an "extension cord" for the pins that formerly pressed into the backs of the gauges when they were mounted on the hard plastic carrier. Since I put the "two over two" Dakota gauges into the "four wide" panel in the center of the dash, wiring them up is a cinch! I'll post a better photo of the 4 gauge assembly later!

Crafty, very cool. Where did you come up with that Idea?

Here is my Pierce Arrow Dash courtesy of Alchemy. Right now filled with SW black face gauges but soon to be filled with the SW Twin Blue gauges. Just need to find the elusive speedometer.

Excellent thread, Ive been working on trying to source the pieces I need for my dash. I found a 20's chrysler panel (rotary speedo, engine temp, oil press, and fuel level) missing the ampmeter but I should be able to source one to fill the hole. This thread has given me some wonderful ideas to replace the rusty chrysler (im trying to create something new) front panel with a polished aluminum. As its all behind flat glass the idea of painting the back of the glass is wonderful, although I may go with etching instead. The fuel level is unique, I dont think Ive ever seen anything like it, it seems to be a brass diaphram coupled to a pressure fitting. Its nothing like a pressure gauge, more like a vaccum advance that moves a lever. The speedo is fronzen but the numbers, and dials (odometer) are perfect. The potmetal tried to explode.

  25. I can finally add to this great thread. This is the slightly modified dash in my '34. It is an old SW panel with a mix of old and new gauges.
