Very cool thread - always thought this would be a cool idea.
Used to be a 76 Laguna that ran around this area done this way - haven't seen it in a long time.
There are 2 #3 late model replicas that run around Omaha - one white, one black, and one red as Dale JRs car. They are members of the same family and are pretty well done but bone stock under the paint.
A friend of mine built this;













It's built with all real race car parts, 351 with a Richmond 6 speed.
I got a good 60 mile or better ride in it - simply unbelievable!

 

Well, the one I'm building is pretty tame compared to what some of you guys are doing. I'm building a 48 Plymouth business coupe as a street driven race car replica from our local dirt track from the early-mid 60s.

My 48 is a body shell put on a Dodge Dakota frame that I'm building with a 4 point cage, full fenders with cut wheel wells, side and front and rear nerf bars. I plan on driving it all overthe place when its done, so I'm starting with the Dakota's V6 5 speed but may upgrade to a healthy V8 at a later date. I hope to have it on the road by summer 2011, we will see how the money holds up. Gene

want to do my factory hemi D500 Dodge that I waited some 30yrs to finally get...out of a wrecking yard...don't ask...

think if I french the headlights and taillights for the street drive - I can have magic plates...make that metal plates - to go over them once at the show...

He will be doing a couple few big shows down here with it next year - I can post where it will be.
BTW - it hasn't been on a trailer since it came back from paint with no driveline. As Ken put it "Trucks are meant to be driven not just looked at"

I might do the Fred Lorenzen '63-1/2 Fastback ride for the street. I advertized my '63-1/2 Galaxy for sale, and a Hamber called. He was to come and see it last week, but didn't call...There are leaks on here as well as Craigslist. I wouldn't sell it to him now for twice the price.
That being said... I have a fresh 406 I've just finished, (was going to use it in my '54 Ford Coupe gasser; I also have a 460 I built, that can go in the '54)
406 FE in the Galaxie, have heavy duty 3-speed toploader trans converted to direct floor shift. Car's interior is worn, so a NASCAR streeter is just the ticket.
Nice thing is the wide wheels, roll cage, all the hard stuff gets done 'in house'.
And I've got everything.

I have been keen to do a similar style with a 64 pontiac grand prix, always loved the look of this style of cars. Has anyone got any photos of a 64 grand prix done this way?

 

A friend of mine's dad used to race a #2+ 33' Plymouth in the early 60's. When the time was right, he bought a 33 and made it into a street-able racecar that runs on Miller Lite! He runs open headers and is a very cool rod!

He is also an artist and is a good car whiz, he used to have a 66 Corvete he built from an s10 chassis. And he now has a 1948 Ford Rat Rod Pickup he built from a late 90's Buick and is building a 59' T-Bird Curtis Turner Replica. He also builds custom pedal cars, bikes and go-carts.

That Falcon is "KILLER" bad.

Not much on the late engine, but I like the rest. I always thought these and Chevy II's made great looking race cars.

My choice for an engine would be an FE.
