Thank you both Junior Stock and Colesy for the posts... especially for the 1973 rule book snippet.

Jim Kinder huh? That's a nice last name... just so happens to be mine.

    Appreciated!

In march of 1973 at Fremont Raceway we set the 4- E/H RECORD at 122.44 this was 57 corvette legal NHRA C OR DMP the car was owned by Ernie Dutre 1965 winter nationals Street Elim it was no big deal because he had run those mph in 1965 on 7 inch tires.

A couple more "mystery cars". If anyone can I.D. them, please do. These are from Rockford Illinois, 1971 I believe.

M/P and Gas class cars were the coolest-looking, baddest-sounding, most colorful cars at the drag strip (to this young kid) way back when.

I apologize for that folks. If I had known that were the case, I wouldn't have posted the photo.

    Colesy,
No problem with posting the pic. I have an old pic that I plan on posting. It was just one of those racing accidents!

Thanks Dave but all credit goes to Lynn W. Morton. Yep, that '56 Chevy is "clean looking" and representative of the bad-ass, very exciting M/P and Gas cars that competed in Modified eliminator.

Hey guys, I know it's been mentioned before, but before all the classes are muddied and run together, be sure to look on the window in the pictures to see if the car is MP, Gas, or what. It'll kind of clear up the differences in classes (or not).

Anyone know what kind of wheels those are on the back of the "Half Breed" Mustang coupe? I don't think I've ever seen those before - they're reminiscent of the base model wheels they put on Ford Rangers for a few years.

Chopped top altereds are clearly not M/P I'm spending a lot of time sorting out these cars, It's a "Modified Production" thread.

I don't have a problem with that, as long as everyone knows what's going on. But I'll bet some where, some one is arguing that you could run a chopped top Chevelle in Modified Production because they saw it on this thread.

Now that I think about it, I would like to see this thread all Modified Production. There is already a Gasser thread somewhere, so why not post the Gassers there?

I hear you Larry.:) I personally don't mind one way or the other, but I am noticing that I'm constantly looking at the windows of the cars to see what class they were.

Though, on the flip side; most of those pics posted by Pete are completely awesome and I probably would've missed out on them if not posted on this thread.(thanks Pete).

No, they're not. But they DID compete in Modified eliminator against the Modified Production cars as did the Gas class cars and that's why I included the photo.

    Pete

P.S. And Super Modified cars too.

One has to be pretty 'dense' to make that claim especially when it's very obvious that (Chevelle) is a D/Altered.

You want me to go back and remove all non-M/P car photos? All Bill (Colesy) has to do is give me the word and I will.

Ha-ha...I don't know but they certainly look 'home made', i.e., a stock steel wheel that was widened. Btw, this guy Emil Ekroth, had more professional cars later on. In fact, the late Pro Stock driver Scott Geoffrion drove one of his Competition eliminator cars before he was 'discovered' by Warren Johnson and subsequently asked to join his P/S team and drive Warren's second car.

I don't particularly want the pictures removed, I like all of the doorslammer pictures.
As far as having to be dense not to know the difference. Any one that was around dragracing in the 60's and 70's would know the difference in a glance. The trouble is that a lot of the folks on this site weren't even born then and probably don't have a clue about the differences in classes that were legislated into oblivion 20 years before they even got interested enough in this stuff to be looking at this thread.
Just giving them a heads up to check and tell the apples from the oranges.

    Hi Pete,
It doesnt matters who started the thread, if the majority did not like your posts then Im sure you would get the message and post elsewhere.
Being that the majority in this community thread thoroughly enjoy your posts, please keep them coming. Your contribution to a number of different threads on the HAMB is much appreciated.
