yup. it has a final comp ratio of 8.75-1

When it came down to it, i just didn't real warm and fuzzy about mail ordering a performace reman from someone i dont know and I have had REALLY bad experiences with machine shops dragging their feet, not doing what they say, cutting corners etc. I just don't trust them.

I feel very comfortable in my purchase on this crate engine. Plus I get to tell people I have a 502:cool:

There is no replacement for displacement, and torque is king. These 502 c.i.d. cast iron 4-bolt mains with 1-piece rear main seals with approximately 8.75:1 compression and 450 hp at 5,250 rpm and 550 ft./lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm. These blocks are fit with 1053 forged steel crankshafts, forged aluminum pistons with forged steel shot peened rods with 7/16 in. bolts. Hydraulic roller camshafts with .510 in. intake lift, .540 in. exhaust lift and duration at .050 in. for intake is 211 degrees, and 230 degrees for exhaust. Cast Iron cylinder heads with 118cc combustion chambers with 2.19 in. intake, and 1.88 in. exhaust valves. Rock arms are installed with 1.7:1 ratio. They are then topped off with aluminum dual plane intake manifolds and dress the engine with a cast iron water pump, 6-quart oil pan, windage tray, 14 in. flexplate and torsional damper. So, all you need to do is provide an 750 cfm carburetor, HEI ignition system, headers with 2 in. diameter by 30 in. long primaries and low restriction mufflers and a car with big sticky tires. These 502 HO crate engines require electric fuel pumps because the 502 GEN VI blocks have no mechanical fuel pump bosses. The 502 HO is not intended for marine use, and should only be used in 1978 and earlier pre-emissions street vehicles or any year off road vehicles.

You are right thinking this way.I have seen high dollar race engines after being torn down just to find stock replacement or cheap parts inside. If you talk on the phone and they don't give you all the details pass on the deal.Do you get a warranty from gm?

  9. well it looks like your blower isn't going to work out and you should just send it to me...lol

I wanna say it let go at like 5800, but it was pretty much a stock motor that had bandaids all over it ( two sleeves and some other funky stuff )

I knew it was gonna go.

It will be interesting driving it with the 502 and some more boost.:D

Chopperman, not telling you how too do it, But why did you bolt the converter to the motor and not put it in the trans too make sure it goes in the trans pump ??? it will bolt up if not in the pump! if not in, new trans time!!! it will kill trans pump when you fire it up!!!!! Just asking!!

Your the second guy to notice:D

I do this all the time. There is plenty of room in there and it slipped right in with no binding at all. I just make sure to visually line the pump gear up vertical with a screwdriver and then rotate the engine assy over to match prior to dropping it in. All is good.

I got a perfect matting surface block to tranny on the first shot. If I was off on the pump, I wouldn't be able to mount the block to the trans without a 1/2 gap and then wrenching down and binding the converter against the pump housing (that would be bad)

Not recommending this method for everyone, but it seems to work for me.:D

Car Craft stuck a blower on a crate 502, under-driven, and got 600 hp. I went with the speedomotive 468 with dual quads. It was the cheapest deal I could find and after 2 years, it's still a great motor.
