Well I have been up for almost 23 hours now but I don't have pictures of the speed shop that I bought from back in 1969 to 1973 . It was called Terry's Speed Shop in Randallstown , MD . I am sure guys back then remember Terry well . That place is long gone by now but did serve us all very well . Now if you wanted to get your engine work done by a great machinest you took it to The Famous " Coleman Bros. Speed Shop" back then to get your engine doing thing you never thought it would do ! Bill was the greatest machinest I have ever known ! I think he did about everyones engine work that lived in Md at that time and before even in the early 60's ! He was well know by many famous drag racers of that time and now . Look up on Goggle for " Coleman Bros." and read all the history they made ! The shop next to them was called " Ladds " and I think they are still there . They were the ones that did the head work and boy did they wake your engine up . I was emailing with Bill's nephew for a while tonight and he tells me Bill is still building engines in his retirement as we speak . he is a great machinest and a hell of a nice guy to . Whatever you wanted out of your engine , he would do it just like you wanted it to . High horse or a bad ass street car he was the man to do it . Check him out under " Coleman Brothers Speed Shop " and read what you missed and his great success with his rear engine dragster ! Those were the best times when drag racing was DRAG RACING ! Is there a way a "nobody" like me could be put in contact with Mr. Coleman? i'm not a bullshiter(i may be slow mentally/physically/otherwise) but when the call comes that my stuff is ready, i'm there with the money in full immediately. I've had work done by Malcolm Durham and sons and it was the same way--paid in full immediately.

Great thread!! Seeing all of these old speed shop pictures makes me wish I was born 40 years earlier.
Where in Wash DC? It looks too small to be Strick's on 14th st. NW At least in my feeble memory of the place. It was destroyed in the 68 riots. I'd love to see a picture of Strick's. That was cool part of town in the 60s. Lots of automotive machine shops and auto related businesses all clumped together not all that far from the White house.
Exhaust Specialties along with Radkes were the Boss in the 60's. Along with the mighty Columbia Racing Engines ( for nitro motors), Enginewity and, jeez that was a long time ago!

Tommy, I think that is the original Custom Speed Shop down on Maine Avenue, and it looks like Courtney Scott, the owner, in the plaid shirt. It's been a long time ago, but that is my guess. Probably the late 50's early 60's.
I worked for them after high school, That was the first shop. I also remember going into Garlits place over on cypress st when I was even younger. I don't think he ever took a shower in those days.
Do any of you "Older Hambers" remember "Speed Garage" on 51st ave. off of Queens Blvd in Elmhurst Queens NY 1962-1968. I hung out there as a 12 year old kid in 62 getting them coffee and rolls or lunch from "Mikes deli" it was the garage for "Elm Motors" a used car dealer on Queens Blvd that sold hi-performance cars 62 409s, wedge plymouths, corvettes, etc. Willie the Welder ran the place and worked on a lot of racers cars. I'm trying to find a picture of the sign that was over the garage door. It had a "Flash Gordonish" rocket over the name "Speed Garage" Thanks Pat
anybody have any pics of the old "honest Charleys" or "Corker" tires stores, I know corker tires isn't a "speed" shop but they probably have some cool old vintage pics???
My brother used to take me to Garlits' speed shop back in the early '70's. I was about 10 at the time. We were there one day and he walked in limping from his accident when he lost part of his foot. My brother drove a VW so there wasn't much to look at but it was cool when Don walked in.

I'm sure no one ever took a picture of the Schlieper's speed shop in brookfield Wisconsin because it was just an old barn but this was their window sticker from around 1969.
Went here in Oct. after CHRR. Met Terrible Ted Gotelli's son who owns it and guy in back who still builds engines etc. Time warp!!!!
