Anyone Else Sick of "Patina"

Not my cup-O-tea but it's all good.

I'll never volunteer my opinion about a car that someone spent bunches of time/money on, I don't like to fight that much.

Just a word on phony patina if I may. Now, we're not talking RUST. But if a car is done really tastefully, and has a really nice survivor appearance about it, has personality, and it can't be determined if it was faked.....I'm a fan. A cool look is a cool look. Whether by chance or on purpose

I'm cool with patina... not too much of a 'faux-tina' fan... IMO, If you are going to put that much work into a paint job, make it look like a paint job!!

 

I think it really depends on the car and what you want to do with it... I would rather see someone drive their car and have it patina than have a perfect paint job un-drivable car.. It is just another matter of personal preference!

 

Since when did "painted" and "shiny" come to mean "not driven"and "trailer queen"?Hell, I've seen rustbucket rat Rods trailered to shows. I'll ask another question;

I'm rather sick of people complaining about what other people do with their own cars. Just worry about your own car. If you want paint...paint it. If you don't...don't paint it.

Personally, I'll walk by one hundred painted cars to see one original patinated car. But, that should in no way be a factor in you determining what you should do with your own car.

fake patina is laughable.

real patina on historic cars, real ones with history is great.

been involved with all eras of cars and bikes for 35 years and never once did any

serious car guy I ever know yearn for a crappy rusty pos.

I think the name of this thread should be is anyone sick of FAKE patina ,it kind of got off the original subject, i just can't undersdtand why someone would take the paint off of a good car just to make it rust, or pour freaking bleach on good sheet metal, nothing wrong with an original car as long as it doesn't have holes rusted through it

 

I guess it doesn't bother me too bad.

My preference is shiny paint - my dad has done restorations on several million dollar cars. And I like my old wagon, but I'm not going to dump $20k into paint and body on a $700 rusty field find.

Funny thing, it gets more attention than any red '57 Chevy I park it next to.

 

Ummm, well, the original Grenade Inspector post was not about fake patina. The subject of the original complaint was about REAL patina.
