History 1933 - 1936 Willys, picture thread

I own a '33 Willys w/ a steel body and Kelison one-piece front end. I would like to find more history about this old racecar-turned-street hot rod. Here is what I know about its history:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I purchased it from John Nerricio in 1980. I believe he was in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Connecticut</st1lace></st1:State>. I found out it was previously owned by Bill Bowman, who built the orange '33 roadster that was in all the magazines in the '70s. Bill confirmed that he did at one time own it but knew nothing of its history. When I got it it was painted red. The most distinguishing feature was that it had three stack holes cut into the top of the driver's side hood, which had been subsequently patched before the hood was painted red. It looks as though it had been raced with an inline six with tri-power in it at one time - possibly a 302 GMC - which is ironic because I also chose to run an inline six in it. Any further clues to this car's past would be appreciated. Thanks

A little match race action at Aquasco, 68.

 

How do you like when Jack leaned his front window back, but not the window pillers.

 

I guess it was a pretty neat idea to cheat the wind a little bit, but I really don't know how much of a difference it made. At least the car still looked good from the side (lol). It's a little better than when Twig Zeigler got the car, and finished laying back to posts to match the windshield. Overall, I wish he had left it alone, but at least when Jack restored the car in the mid 80's, he fixed that and put the posts back right.

Hey Rocky, I think Aquasco closed about 1978. It was a really a great place. Saw my very first race there about 1967.
As far as my '33, Dave Cornell still has it but I haven't talked to him in a while. I've been trying to trade him my '39 for it but, no luck so far.
Only real projects I'm working on is jukeboxes. You know, the stuff that helps pay the bills. ha ha The '39 is pretty much done as far as I'm concerned. Mike

 

From what I've read the car would either fly or it was plagued with handling problems. Normally it was probably an 8.80 car, but I spoke to Frost once about 5 years ago. He said it ran a best of 8.3 something, back in early 69, and that was on gasoline!!! He sold it some time in 69, because by the Nats at Indy, it was owned by someone else. Then it went to the 4-Horsemen team.

 

How fast did you guys run? What were your times that day?
