I haven't been able to find much information with specificity, but from what I understand the swap to hydraulic drum brakes on Model A Fords involves swapping out the spindles for 1937-1948 spindles (why?) and installing F100 backing plates (which years?)

"Self energizing" backing plates are preferred, but what years had these?

I've also read that the 1937-1941 and the 1942-1948 spindles are different. Is one better than the other? What else goes into making the swap?

I'd love to hear the details from any and all who have done this.

    Thanks,

I figured as much. I didn't post my question until I had searched all of the terms I could think of. The search feature isn't very intuitive. Fortunately, I did put on my flame retardant underwear before posting my question knowing that I would get flamed for it.

    Thanks!

Ill agree. Ive searched alot of things, it seems for every 5 pages of search results, you might get one thread that answers SOME of your question. A FAQ section would GREATLY help this site. There is a massive amount of information available here, but its all very unorganized.

Try this one, it doesnt have pics, but tells about different options.
Lots of info out there, enough to make the choices a little difficult.
I've had better luck searching in the tech section, rather than the general postings area. Good Luck to you

  7. Okay. first. Read the ENTIRE Tech section. then play with the search. The information you seek is out there. I was once a Hamb newb too and thought the search sucked. But I kept at it. The info is there.

Untame, 37-41 Ford spindles have a round back and 42-48 spindles have a square back,
beyond that they are the same.
