    It does look like a small spin on oil filter, but I don't recall too many of those around back in 66 (?) If I had to guess I'd say it may be a breather borowed from a piece of industrial equipment like a stationary engine or a large hyd. shear/brake/press etc.

    It was pretty common to keep the midget tail.

    Once upon a time.......

    I had an original Kurtis Aluminum midget tail that had never been mounted. It carried markings where someone had planned to stretch it into what I assume was to be a Sprint tail.

    It was marked to stretch the front,(behind driver) several inches to conform to a longer wheelbase.

    Sorry but I don't have any photos of it and is long gone, down the road.

    Trentesep, I believe the paint is Zinc Chromate. It was used as an undercoat in the aircraft industry. It was a very good protection for exotic metals.

    I hope that helps.

    probably a banned substance now though.

    I had the same question! Spent some time working with Dewey on the badger from Johnny Mann to Lenny Boyd driving it.

    VHT used to make a wheel sealent for overcoming porosity in cast wheels but it didn't look anything like what Halibrand used.

    Josh, "Survivors" alley was great as usual! The two Hart cars make a great end cap.

    Root, you new car is so perfectly 70's ! I can't wait to see it run. That is the kind of car I grew up with at the Burg.

    Yep, I saw a #56 Sterling Plumbing car in Boise or Meridian Idaho couple of years ago. I don't know if it's authentic but I know it's pretty.

    I have the the Kurtis Kraft book and there is pics showing they used the same tail stamping adding 5" to the frt for a sprint or 10'' for a chaamp car.

    In the late 1960's, we used to send new aluminim or magnesium wheels that leaked, where the applied a sealer made by a compamy called "XIM". I believe the were near the Cleveland,Ohio, area. Until recently,they still appeared as a sponsor on a 410 winged car #91 driven/owned by Bob Lime .

    We don't have the car anymore. I forget who does have it, but they asked for some info a few years ago, as they were going to restore it. If I can remember who has the car now I'll post it.

    If anyone has problems with old Airheart calipers, get in touch with Warren Gilliland at The Brake man in Camarillo, Ca. He was Airheart's protoge and was of great help on my Halibrand lobsters. He worked with Airheart when they subcontracted to Halibrand and when they went on their own.

    This is the car I purchased a few days ago #7. It is the Sonny Beck / Paul Mead-Glen Niebel car that raced USAC from 1958 until 1969. It had several drivers during this time. Bud Tinglestead, Bobby Black, Ronnie Duman, Johnny White, Curley Boyd and others. It raced in the Mid West USAC tour during these years but was also raced with the Tom Cherry Racers and toured many tracks from Ind to Ny. This is going to be a special project as I know several people who were with the car when it raced including the sister of Sonny (Diane Beck-Lane) who was part of the USAC family back in the late 50's and early 60's. Diane was in total shock when I called and told her that I found and am going to restore her brothers sprint car.
    If you are interested in this project I will post pic's along the way.
