This is to add to the McDonalds topic. We have a very old "cruisin" location here in CT. Its call the Berlin Turnpike and back in the day it was home to 3-4 drive-ins and many diners, bowling alleys, old motels, etc. Some diners are still there, the motels are still there, and the bowling alleys are still there. the drive-ins are now shopping plaza's anda Lowes. The Berling Turnpike is still very much a hot cruising location on friday nights. my grandparents tell me that this was the place to be back in the day on a friday or saturday night. McDonalds has been demolishing a lot of their locations and updating them. they demolished their locationg on the Berlin Turnpike a few years ago and instead of putting up a very modern looking building....they built this!!!!!!! HOW COOL!

Hard to believe, were talking about Anne Francis not one month ago.
Now she's passed away at 80. It always amazes me, too, how actors
and singers become a real part of our lives -- sharing times together.
Enjoying them perform helps define the times of our lives.

1937 Ford V8 Model 62

My Dad had a 37 humpback, but the headlights & grill shown above don't look familiar. Is this for sure a 37 or does a "model 62" have this unique grill & headlight treatment?!? My guess is a 36...but the grill still doesn't look right.

 

I believe that is a European Ford. Similar, but not identical. Gary

here's some addl info:
1947-1951, 22155 produced.
Types: Saloon,4 doors,4 seats
Estate,4 doors,8 seats(bench seat front, bench seat rear, and two fold down seats )

The first post-war "Big Ford" was the V8 Pilot, launched in 1947. The Pilot used the pre-war 22hp chassis combined with a 30hp sidevalve V8 which had been in service for some time. The Pilot featured Hydro-mechanical brakes and a column change gearbox and had a very transatlantic feel.

Although most Pilots were the standard four door saloon type a few other derivatives were also built. Other types of body included a rare pick-up version and an estate car. Some pick-ups and a handful of 6-light 7-seater limousines were made by outside coachbuilders. A special V8 Pilot Estate was built for the Royal family and is now displayed in the museum at Sandringham.

Production of the V8 Pilot finished in 1951, by then the Ford Zephyr had established itself as they new "Big Ford".

The Slant Six has a legendary reputation for endurance. It also has a hidden secret: strong performance, given the right conditions.

Most slant sixes were given a single one-barrel carburetor; but the optional HyperPak kit, which included a four-barrel, pushed out 196 horsepower, and modern racers have used turbochargers and different carburetion and manifolding to produce far more.

Even with the standard carb, the slant six (so named because it was an in-line six, with all cylinders lined up in a single row, “slanted” 30 degrees) had a nice mixture of torque and economy, with power better than similar, comtemporary GM and Ford offerings.

Aside from a generally superior engine design, the six’s unique slant provided room for an efficient manifold system that provide each cylinder with an individual intake and exhaust tube. Bends had a large radius, and the intake tubes and exhaust tubes were nearly equal in length. The design assured that each cylinder got the same amount of air and fuel at the proper time, and that exhaust gases were fully, equally vented. Competitive designs made some cylinders “double up,” or had sharp bends or tubes with highly varying lengths.

The "Super Six" with a two-barrel Carter carb compensated for smog controls and increased responsiveness without loss of economy, and with the Feather Duster package, the slant six was capable of 30 mpg on the highway. An export version pushed the tilted engine to 160 bhp, and the fabled HyperPak (an aftermarket package for racing) raised the USA bar to 196 hp.

Thats right. The Model 62 was British built and was powered by the small 60 horse power V8. Similar cars were built in France and Germany. I think they were called Matford and Cologne.The V8 60 was developed in England as a tax dodger. It was first used in 1935 in the regular full size body. The Model 62 came out in '36 it was never sold in America

 

As you say most Pilots were 4 doors. They also did "The equiped chassis" which only had body work as far as the front doors it was these that had the special bodies such as pick ups and estate cars. Most of the equiped chassis were intended for export and had L.H.D. Pilots were popular as Police cars a few of these had 3.9 litre engines. Factory hot rods!

This was a popular way iamages were conveyed in the "good old days" of the 1950's. Called a View Master, discs were swapped and you could see the pyramids and stuff with pretty amazing clarity. I think it was 3D.

Yep, I have several disks of various places around the world from the 1950's - 60's. I'd love to find some more car related. I've even got the slide projector and we had an impromptu backyard theatre with the kids in the back yard on Labor Day. They loved it.

 

Bottom is Beach Boy's "Little Deuce Coupe" LP Hi-Fi album. Top is Hot Rod.
The album came out in 1963 but the mag was first in 1961 so I suspect this is the Little Deuce Coupe in a mag before it was the Little Deuce Coupe of the album cover.
