Looks cool... I kinda like the A grill shell on the '32 frame.... I've seen it in the past... can;t remember where though...
I don't think that I would modify the shell though.. aside from maybe filling the top?(though not sure about this either)
You'll likely have to trim the sides a little to get the hood line perfect due to the 32 frame kicking up in the front... but all in all I think a non stock shaped Model-a grill will look off...
Your so used to seeing them in their standard form, that if one is modified slightly... they appear as "wrong" even if in reality it looks "better"...

not sure if that makes sense or not...
Its advice that I was given when thinking of making my own '32 shell....Your trained eye will see the difference...

maybe using a 30-31 shell would work if you wanted it to be taller?

In all honesty... in the past... I think guys would have run an A shell only untill they could get their hands on a '32 shell... on a '32 frame.... just my opinion there though....

in any case.. keep up the good work
    Zach

The stock grille shell looks prefect how it is in line with the bottom sweep of the frame coming forward. Wouldn't change anything there.

I appreciate the comments, everyone -- thank you!

They are stock '30/'31 hood sides that were given to me by a friend from Sioux City, IA -- Joe Russell (jrussell on here).
I didn't think they'd be long enough on the '32 chassis, but they're damn near perfect, besides needing a little trimming... also need to figure out how tall they should be. Might end up trimming them to match up with the line where gas tank meets the cowl sides.

Thanks for the comments, Zach. I went down to the garage to look it over a little more. I'm betting I won't need to modify the shell at all.

With the engine/trans, etc. in, it should drop enough to put the axle behind the shell... perfect! :)

    Malcolm/Nick,
Great to see you are working on a roadster! Looking forward to seeing you at Bonneville. Just remember that the difference is in the details, and it's the details that take all of the time.

  21. I agree completley. I think a lengthened shell may look wierd. I'd run it stock, I think it looks fine.

Put some headlights on it too and then look...that will totally change the look.

Best advise I can give you is what Zach told me when I was building my roadster. He told me to push it outside and walk back...WAY back and look at it from all angels. It WILL look different outside then crammed in your garage.

i really like this build i think the grill shell prob or griping will end when you get some weight in the front like motor, water, radiator. it will look perfect
