I gave my pic to the photoshop gurus on this site...
they came up with a couple versions I loved...
My friends say "don't modify that longroof into a Ranchero!"

I've been dreaming of the modification since Christmas!

    Majority wins!

Lots and lots of really difficult work to pull it off without looking like a lame conversion. That and with the potential for no return financially unless you find that one in a million guy that might want it someday makes this one a no go for me. Your mileage may vary.

    Looks like a nice car.
I am liking the chero look too.
    Better yet;
make it a 2 true door (not just weld & fill the rears), fill in the side windows and make a sedan delivery - I'd already be cutting.

That's a unibody car and unless you reinforce the chassis portion of the car, your gunna run into trouble. A lot of support is in the roof of these cars. If there is a ragtop around you could compare the unibody supports.
Not many conversions into pickups have been done well.

might be cool, but i think there'd be quite a bit of fabbing to get the proportions to look right.

That view cheats the fact that using a 4dr based car, the roof would be really tiny(length-wise), especailly since it seems to have a leaned forward rear glass ala the el camino. I would think you would have to move the b pillars and get some 2dr doors...

Not to burst the bubble as i think the idea has potential... but it definitely wont be a quick or easy job to do it right.

DO NOT CUT THAT ROOF.... If you want to modify, find a set of doors from a 2 door (which should be longer), move the B pillar back and build a 2 door trying to make it look like the factory would have. the wagon as it will have more value then a ranchero wanna be.

If it started life as a Ranchero, fine. But please don't cut up that nice wagon. The pickup car is damn near worthless anyway. If you want a truck, go buy one.

  19. Cutting into an El Camino, would mean it really should have the '2dr' doors.

Hack the roof so you can take 4 cans of trash to the dump? Buy shorter cans so you can load them inside the wagon.

That wagon is too Kool and nice to that to it. You must be carefull of the unibody design when you change things. Most wagons that people try to do this come out like crap. But it is your car and your money, I always say do what makes you happy.

  24. I think the back window treatment, would make or break the whole thing.

  25. IF you have the talent to pull that off, and it will take a lot to keep it proportionately right (Longer doors, quater panel stretch, correct rear window, tailgate etc.) , then I like the idea. If you don't, then don't ruin a nice little wagon

A friend of mine did a little f-85 back in the seventies, Two door it and be careful how you build the back of the cab. He reinforced the top of the bed all around the bed so it would not fold up in the middle!

It's almost 5 to 1 for keeping the wagon....I'll need to rethink, I think.
