What did this 15" wide five come off of? Its a Ford Kelsey Hayes wheel....if I remember right I wanna say it measured out to 5'' wide. The windows are almost non-existint in these compared to the 16" and 18"....looks different, but great with the hubcap. Just looking for more info on them. Not sure if Im gonna keep them (have 2)....and I havent seen anyone selling any like them...(hate to ask next part)...what are they worth?
It was popular in the sixties to make 15" wheels out of 16" wheels. You could not buy 16" whitewalls and for some reason 16" tires were hard to find. I am kind of guessing but I think this wheel was modified to 15". This would explain the smaller openings by the rim. IT WAS MORE POPULAR WITH OLD CHEVY 16" THAN IT WAS WITH OLD FORDS. YOU COULD BUY 15" WHEELS THAT WOULD BOLT ON OLD FORDS BOLT PATTERN BUT NOT FOR 39 AND 38 CHEVYS.
They have ford script....im thinking they were cut down like the consensus is saying. Did they do this modification in the 50's at all? Is this mod desirable for someone building a '60's era rod?
I was told many years ago that 40 / 41 sedan delivery came from factory with 15 inch.. All were snatched up by round track racers.
thease wheels came off a 36-39 ford. the center section was turned down and welded on to later 15 inch wheels. They will fit my car.
I forgot to mention that speedway has an adapter kit. That will allow you to run them on later moder chevy or fords.
Friend of mine has had more than a dozen '40-'41 sedan deliveries ... all were standard Ford issue 5 1/2'' lug pattern. Now if it were a Marmon - Harrington, possibly - the '40 pickup conversions were still using the large pattern.
The ones oldskoolflyer has are 5x10" bolt patern. 36-39 ford center section. If he had 4 of them I would like to have them. I am looking for 1 of the 5 on 5x10" 16 inch for a spare tire.
This is getting off subject a lil bit....most probably know this, but just throwing it out there as a alternate to Speedway wide 5 adapters: http://dickspadaro.com/wheel_adapter.htm (including 5x5.5 bolt pattern) Someone mentioned this was popular in the 60's.....any pics from that era or idea what they would be worth (less or more than stock 16's)?
here are some pics with hubcaps in comparison to 16''....cap and wheel colors are what they were when acquired
