Yes it is Gaylord Focker. I'm watching you Focker ! :D

  10. No Frisco is a little oil town down south and east of San Francisco. Filthy place, if the dictionary showed a pic of environmental disaster it would be a pic of Frisco.

I'm not sure who Gayland is but if you thought the "Boy Named Sue" was tough you probably don't want to meet Gayland.

There is a fella here in town named Gayland Boyer. He used to sell Fords, I don't care for him at all.

Those are pretty neat looking rocker covers though.

Back in the 70's his shop was over on Alondra blvd in Bellflower. Did lots of boat stuff, raced the Parker 9 hour in a jet.

I take it that the average age of you clowns is well under 50. Once upon a time "gay" only meant that one was happy and then a bunch of idiots ruined a good word for their own purposes.

Gayland Hill was an engine builder who was a pretty bad dude! He used to work for Mike Kuhl and built bad ass engines. He was Partners in an Anglia that at one time was considered one of the fastest street cars in the L.A. area. He built the engines and drove the car. In the August 1985 issue of Hot Rod, Pat Ganahl did a story on street racing and the Anglia is featured in that article. You can see a picture of the same valve covers on that car.

Brandy, I wonder how long ago he passed away, I didnt think he was very old? He would probably be in his mid 60's now? I guess I am kind of forgetting the Hot Rod article was written in 1985, It seems like yesterday! I never knew him, but I always knew his name, and thought he was kind of a bad ass guy because of his engine building, drag racing and street racing exploits!

If the internet search is right, he was 52? Was he also one of the "Whittier Boys"?

  28. Thanks a lot Jimmy! I have that HRM and will now be up till midnight digging it out! I remember the car well now that you mention it.

  29. Just found the issue! Makes sense that it was burned into my brain, that was the Street Racing issue that had a HENRY J on the cover and I had just drug mine home as a teenager!!! Yup, same valve covers!!!! I think that Anglia is also in a Rod Action magazine from the same era.

Yes Brandy he was one of the Whittier boys. I think it was him, Boyd Gaebel (who had a bad 67 Nova) and a guy named Bill , who I think is "Big Bill".
They were all hardcore street racers from that era.
