last chance for Banger meet December 2010

I'm ready to shorten my torque tube drive shaft.....I'm using CDO's adapter...Does anyone have measurement of the front of a stock model a bell housing to rear of model a transmission where torque tube connects. Thanks..Bill

The engine is a diamond B block that has had the full treatment eg.
Balanced, bored, pressurized, insert bearings, Riley Two Port (Yapp) head, Robert Roof intake with two new Zenith updrafts (still made in Michigan) Ford alternator, new Mallory Distribuor,'36 Ford waterpump, rebuilt oil pump, Harley oil filter, new "Made in America" exhaust manifold (Kuhns Tractor Restoration New York), that has been porcelain enamel coated, adapter plate and starter by Bendtsen (Minnesota) and a GM 200c TH tranny. The engine was built by my good friend Bob Baas of B&J Auto in Alexandria Mn.

To be honest, Pee Wee Football, T-Ball, Cub Scouts, and the general mayhem of our "Little Yankees" has kept me from it (not to mention some obnoxious computer woes), but I should be able to get something done over the winter break!

Very nice engine, should move an A down the road at a very satisfactory rate.
I'm wondering about your choice of transmission- not that it's an automatic, but why you chose a TH200, with the reputation that they earned--was it a size issue? Also, some details of the adaptation to the rear of the engine to couple the tranny would be of interest. I assume that you had to remove the frame center cross member--or at least move it back. More details please!

When you get some numbers let me know. I love model B and A engines. I have a Yapp two port. I run up to 3200rpm. I never saw one until I bought one. It is fun to play with and drive. I have ran it without a fan and had no heating problems in the summer. The engine use to heat up with a four blade fan before I installed the two port head. I change the carbs and just enjoy experimenting. i get a kick out of the old advertising " 100 HP right out of the box).

Thanks and I hope you are right regarding the motivation. I took Bendtsen's advice (see http://www.transmissionadapters.com/Model%20A%20Install%20Inst.htm ) regarding the 200c and had one rebuilt. I did have a V-6 Malibu with one and it was trouble free for the many years that we had that car. Other sites convinced me that it should work just fine. The frame that this is all in is not stock. Take a look at the pictures and check out the link and feel free to ask away.

p.s. As you can see, there wasn't much room. In hindsight a powerglide might have been a better choice but I guess all will be revealed in due time.

Look for a drive shaft shop that does 4 wheel drive axle modifications.

My update for the month, me and a good buddy took a break from bodywork on my Model T tub and came up with this a couple weeks ago and wanted to see what this combo looked like together. Nothing too special but interesting none the less. Probably will never see the street like this though.-Weeks

it was built by Joe Mack and he raced it at antique nationals and hill climbs in so cal.
It is now owned by Tim Zander and his son Bryce will be using it for High School.

I miss Joe a lot he was always there ready to help me. Always there to answer questions. I remember giving him a straw hat to protect him at one really hot swapmeet.

 

Bluto; I thought you might like this picture. My grandaughter sent it from her house in Southern Ontario, taken late this afternoon. 39" on the ground and it is not predicted to let up until late tomorrow. My roadster is in storage there, safe and sound.....I hope.

My shop space may disappear soon enough too, but all my stuff will be either in storage or hidden at good friends houses. Coupe is about to get stashed so I have space for my 29' RPU and my 26' Model T that need to be assembled into rollers/drivers. Right now my shop space is like the old analogy "10lbs of shit crammed in a 5lbs bag."-Weeks

This is all very inspiring, thanks all, While some of you have 30+" of snow, we've had 10+" of rain in the last couple of weeks!! shorts and T-shirt, gotta love it!

 

Here is some more about Joe Mac's RPU. He built it in his den/covered patio out of scrounged parts and odds and ends he had laying around, As to the porting he blew a hole in one of his ports because it was so thin. He thought it was a blown headgasket. Joe was really special, you could call him and say that you needed a 40 rear end with 4.11's or a V8 trans and he would have it in a day or two. Of course that was after he "retired" from his business. One bedroom in his house was full of bins and shelves of NOS Ford parts, mostly trans and rear end stuff.

Very nice sound car never a wreck ...no cancer...... wood is all very tight and good

I got all the stuff out of the interior ...... the rubber floor mats were pretty nice..... looked at the spedo..... DAMN 27027kms..... way less than 20,000 original miles!!

I am feeling pretty lucky today!
