Gloss black with chrome caps. Your interior is white/black? Any other color than chrome, white or black on the wheels will make it too 'busy', imo.

  14. Like it or not, RED was the old school color of choice. It was used on cars even if it was a clear color clash. It was an easy choice as almost everyone seemed to use it for their wheels.

Back then I never painted mine red, it was too common and overused. I used chrome eventually, buying a pair at a time, but otherwise I kept mine black. Now I have red rims on my '51 because it is most representative of the era I am trying to capture with my car's style. ...but the red is mostly hidden with the four bar wheel covers.

Bottom line, do what you want, not worrying what everyone else likes.

How about try the chrome spray paint on the wheels. I've had some good results with it. Cheap and easy. As well, paint the roof white. Easy (and cheap) to do... or better yet give it a metalflake paint job.

I hope it is. It's a damn sight more interesting than the old flat black.
Good luck with your VW bug.

if youre gonna make any change u should lower her, then decide if you want to paint the wheels.

I would paint them silver after lowering

I vote for black. Less is more. Let the chrome lugs & trim rings stand out against the all black car. I do like mj40s blue wheels & black body.

  26. Red in a metalflake with lots of clear over that and some chrome wheel bullets.
An alternative would be cobalt blue metalflake.

Laughed my ass off at this one.

I think red would kinda look like he was trying to hard to "look" like a hot rod. Personally, I like a silver on the outer diameter of the wheel and a blue on the inner diameter of the wheel with spiders and rings.

I really appreciate all the responses this thread received!!! I never thought it would get quite that reception from you guys! Everyone provided such awesome ideas!

PS- I did not mean to offend anybody out there, or say that red wasn't old school. i simply believe that it is overdone, IMHO.

just because it is old school, doesn't mean it is the only option for an old school style hot rod

  29. ok wheel color like bright green or a metal flake deep purple..old skool and different
