Been doing a lot of of research on Kustom cadillacs as I'm about to do a 61 CDV! I'm very confused, why is it that everytime I see Gene's " MAYBELLENE " it says it's a 61? I have a 61 and the taillights and rear body lines are different , please explain to me what I am missing?!?! I believe his is a 62?!?! Why did all the magazines and books got it wrong?!?! Thank you!
Kit, i know he used a 4 door gm top, but the rear body lines and tail lights are 100% 1962!!! Im just confused on how every book and mags say it's a 1961?!?!?!?
Thanx man, but i have a ton of info on this car and there is nothing anywhere that says he grafted a 62 rear on this 61!!! that's where im confused??!?!?!!?
The roof is off of a '60 4dr., rear quarters from a '62. Gene is a master craftsman at grafting parts off of other cars ! Listen to what he did to get "the look" on the "Jade Idol": http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage145.html JK www.legends.thewwbc.net
no telling whether it started out as a 61 or 62, but as mentioned it has a flat top roof and 62 frt bumper, square turn signals in 62 61 had round turn signals, and it has 62 vertical tail lights, wheres 61 where horizontal.
I am new to cadillacs, and i just acquired one from a friend a building it for my wife!!! Radical 60's kustom it will be!!!!!
Ian... Should be a cool ride when you finish ! Below is a pic of the '60 4dr. I mentioned in the above Post. All the best to you ! Jonnie
I'm parting out a '62 right now, and I'm kind of surprised about how little interchanges, even with the two years. Makes you wonder why he didn't just start with a '62, but I guess he had his reasons.
Put a caddy 500 or 472 in it. The 390s are totally gutless and pieces of shit. The 472 or 500 are easier to get ahold of. Trannys are th400's so the parts are easier to get ahold of than the jetaways. Also, the 500/472 will make a shitload more power than the og 390. Congrats on the gift. Caddys are bad ass rides.
Got to see the caddy yesterday and Ian's getting ready to knock it out of the park....again. Gonna be an honor to see it take shape in person and let me tell ya, Ian's wife is beyond stoked for this build.
I swear I remember seeing a mag article where he was working on the fins, extending them. But I've slept alot since then and could be wrong.
Congrat's Ian ! Hope it turns out just like you want ! Should be very cool ! JK www.legends.thewwbc.net
