grab what u can the steering bell and oil canister ,wheel dah and garnish moldings save what you can ,,,,,,,,,,,,
Be cool to get the whole thing, be one hell of a story to go with the car. Next time you see the guys up there cleaning up, ask them. Bet that they would let you have it, likely just a rusty old car to them.
Man that is just too cool! Oh the stories those things could tell us if they could talk. Of course if they could talk that would be really weird.
Howard Hughes bought the land next to the Hollywood Sign in 1940 to build an estate there for his fiance Ginger Rogers, could be a story there seeing the car is a '40, and Hughes had a car crash about that time. Rogers called off the wedding before the estate was built. Read the story here: http://underthehollywoodsign.wordpr...ger-rogers-and-the-property-on-cahuenga-peak/
Car are all over the canyons here. An acquaintance of mine salvage the top half of a 32 5-window coupe in a steep Griffith Park gully only 3 years ago.
My last serious cruise on Mulholland, I'd spy wrecked cars that went over the edge that were impossible to retrieve. Some looked "new" compared to your find, there's probably a little bit of everything in the canyons. Bob
There is also a 60's Pontiac Tempest and a 80's Nissan Z that looks like someone could have died in. Ugly crash!
yeap! thanks E! this is going into my secret custom project.... I fell twice going down. it had these interesting brackets coming up through the floor? extra shocks? and diamond plate in the trunk,
A little digging and a shitload of cable and you can save anything. Around here, anything below the dirt would just plain be gone, so you wouldn't have to do much digging. That whole left side might be worth cutting off, even if you just hang it up on a wall somewhere, but it looks straight enough and solid enough to be used to save some other car. Wonder if the rest of the body parts are scattered down the side of the hill?
OK, now who can HONESTLY claim that a part off of this coupe ended-up on their running hot rod? Pretty obvious that this poor ol' coupe has given-up most of what could be unbolted...just about picked clean. DD
I'm amazed the LAPD hasn't swooped in on you. I'd be careful if I were you! The city is desperate for money, if they can get you they will!
Always neat to find things like this. About 25 years ago we found a couple of cars that went over just north of the Cliff House in SF, not much left of then because of the salt water but you could tell they were Chryslers of some sort because of the flathead sixes in each of them.
Seeing that diamond plate and those brackets I would guess it was a movie car. It's in Hollywood afterall
I might point out it used to be considered big fun, particualarly in rural ares, to get juiced up and push junker cars off cliffs! I remember a sheer drop into a desert canyon, maybe 100+ ft deep and 50 wide in the Columbia Gorge that had a ton of rusty hulks, including a Hudson Hornet! Not to mention a bunch of other junk.
That must be the cliff on the "chicken run" in Rebel Without a Cause film,,,guy in the 40 didnt stop...LOL
