It can be a kustom without chop. No chop from here too but hey it's your car and you do what hell you want. :D

Was in the same situation as you over 15 years ago and decided not to chop. This is not a restoration and has more modifications on it than some I have seen with chopped tops. :)

So you really want to be different ????? Go the gasser look !!! just kiding
I think the chop is the way to go, shes a beauty either way but,,,,
    chop n drop.
When I am at a show or where ever , the chopped ones always catch my eyes first.
    Just my 2 cents

Mercs are way cool, the chop is your call. I have always leaned towards the chopped mercs but either way you go it will be cool.

Very cool car. I like it chopped or unchopped. Whichever, they both turn my crank.

  9. Nice find! Tough call on the chop or not decision..I like them both ways. Chopping leaves no doubt that it is a "custom".

Congrats on finding such a nice Merc. If you do chop it use a 49 merc 3 piece rear window or a 50 Merc rear window turned upside down. Keep the split front windshield and the rain gutters.

Not really, at a show once while being parked between two chopped top Merc's, I was asked by a spectator, " how hard was it to raise the roof ?"

  13. Well obviously that person was an idiot or just pulling your leg..:eek:

Not an idiot or pulling my leg. Most people today are not familiar with old cars. Have had my '51 Mercury referred to on several occasions as a Hudson.
More than once I have had someone say " my father had a 1949 Mercury just like that " not knowing the difference.

  16. i have had that before i once had a cop ask me what kind of car it was and when i told him didnt belive me

Yeah, I've heard the "Hudson crap" about my Merc too. Nothing surprises me or bothers me anymore. I'm just as happy that they're moved to say anything at all. As for chopping, if you chop yours i'll chop.....wait! Ouch! Honey, i was just --OW--
I was just kidding with the guy babe!

    Wonderfull car!!!

My opinion, there are more chopped then unchopped Mercs today. The coolest Kustoms today arent chopped!

And everyone is searching for an untouched, uncut one, and even paying more for that...

The other thing, 95% are chopped bad and ugly (not rebuildable)!!!

Tex Smith says: measure twice, cut once.

    So: think twice, cut once

    Good luck
